The Australia national handball team is the national handball team of Australia, representing the country in international matches. Handball Australia is the national governing body for the Olympic Sport of Handball and for the sport of Beach Handball. Australia has consistently won the Oceania championships in both men's and women's division. In 2014 the International Handball Federation (IHF) decided to exclude Australia from the 2015 World Men's Handball Championship.
The 2009 World Women's Handball Championship was the 19th edition, second to take place outside Europe, of the international championship tournament in women's team sport handball that is governed by the International Handball Federation (IHF). China hosted the event from 5-20 December 2009. Russia successfully contested France in the final, their fourth title.
Qualification matches for the 2007 World Men's Handball Championship took place in 2006, mostly as continental championships. According to the IHF rules, each continent had three places, and the host (Germany) and holders (Spain) were automatically qualified. The South Korea women's national handball team is the national team of South Korea. Since 1984 the Korean team has not only participated constantly in Olympic Games but also ranked among the top four nations every time until 2012. Korea grabbed the gold medal in 1988 and 1992, won the silver medal in 1984, 1996, 2004 and took bronze medal in 2008. They have earned two World Championship medals so far: In 1995, they also won the World Championship title in Austria/Hungary 1995 World Women's Handball Championship, they came off third to secure the bronze medal at the Croatia in 2003 World Women's Handball Championship. It is a twelve time Asian Champion, the tournament has been won by any other nation only twice.

The 2010 Oceania Handball Championship was the seventh edition of the Oceania Handball Nations Cup, which took place in Porirua, New Zealand from 8 to 10 May 2010. By winning, Australia secured the Oceania bid for the 2011 World Men's Handball Championship in Sweden. The tournament was held as a double round robin. Although New Caledonia won the tournament, they are ineligible to go to the 2009 World Men's Handball Championship as they are a French colony. Australia won the right to represent Oceania by coming second.
The Sydney University Handball Club is a handball team from the University of Sydney from Sydney, Australia. They are five times Men's National Champions, seven times Men's Oceania Champions and qualified for seven IHF Super Globe competitions. The men's team has won the State Championship eleven times. The women's team has also won the State Championship nine times.
