The 1977 Southern Cross Rally, officially the Total Oil Southern Cross International Rally was the twelfth running of the Southern Cross Rally and the sixteenth round of the 1977 FIA Cup for Rally Drivers. The rally took place between the 8th and the 13th of October 1977. The event covered 2,683 kilometres from Sydney to Port Macquarie. [1] It was won by Rauno Aaltonen and Jeff Beaumont, driving a Datsun 710 SSS.

Greg Carr (rally driver) Australian former rally driver

Greg Carr is an Australian former rally driver. Carr won the Australian Rally Championship three times and dominated the prestigious Castrol International Rally in the 1970s as well as winning numerous other rallies.

Richard Anthony Fall was a British rally driver. He was born in Bradford. He began his rallying career as a club rally driver in a Mini. He was considerably better than his peers, however, and was soon spotted by the BMC team; this led to a drive in their works team alongside Paddy Hopkirk, Timo Mäkinen and Rauno Aaltonen. His first major international victory in the Mini was the 1966 Circuit of Ireland, where his co-driver was Henry Liddon.

1966 Gallaher 500

The 1966 Gallaher 500 was an endurance motor race for production cars, held on 2 October 1966 at the Mount Panorama Circuit just outside Bathurst, New South Wales in Australia. It was the seventh running of the Bathurst 500 race and the first time that the event had been staged under the Gallaher 500 name. 250 examples of a particular model had to be registered for a vehicle to be eligible for the race, up from the 100 examples required in previous years.
