Eurovision Song Contest 1984

The Eurovision Song Contest 1984, the 29th event of its kind, was held on 5 May 1984 in Luxembourg. The presenter, Désirée Nosbusch, only 19 years old at the time, hosted the show in a lax manner, which was quite unusual for the show at the time. She manifested her fluency in four languages by switching between a strong transatlantic English, French, German and Luxembourgish in the course of talking, often in the same sentence.

The United Kingdom was represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 1984 by Belle and the Devotions with the song "Love Games". It was chosen as the British entry through the A Song for Europe national selection process and placed seventh at Eurovision, receiving 63 points.

Herreys

Herreys, sometimes Herrey's or Herrey, is a Swedish pop group, consisting of the three brothers Per Herrey, Richard Herrey, and Louis Herrey. They won the Eurovision Song Contest 1984 with the song "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley". Richard and Louis Herrey became the first teenage males to win Eurovision and remain the youngest ever male winners, being 19 years and 260 days and 18 years and 184 days of age respectively. In 1985, they won the Sopot International Song Festival with "Sommarparty". At the time Herreys won Eurovision, the brothers were living and working as singers in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Herreys continued to record and tour for a few years, but had no hits of the same magnitude as the Eurovision winner. They were the first European boyband preceding the international boom a few years later. Herreys was the bestselling pop group in Sweden in the 1980s, and enjoyed enormous success touring and performing in excess of 300 live shows. Herreys was also the first Western band to be invited to tour behind the Iron Curtain in the Soviet Union, and also did shows with the big Russian star Alla Pugacheva.

Sweden mens national basketball team

The Sweden men's national basketball team represents Sweden in international basketball competition. The national team is controlled by the Swedish Basketball Federation.

Gemini are a Swedish brother and sister duo, consisting of Karin Glenmark and Anders Glenmark. The duo released two original albums: Gemini (1985) and Geminism (1987). Both albums reached the Swedish Top 20, while their success was limited to Scandinavia. Their only truly international release was the single "Just Like That".

Fångad av en stormvind

"Fångad av en stormvind" is a song by Swedish singer-songwriter Carola Häggkvist. It was written and produced by Stephan Berg. The song is the best known as Sweden's winning entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 held in Rome, Italy, with 146 points.

Sweden mens national handball team

The Sweden men's national handball team is controlled by the Swedish Handball Association. Its most successful periods were under coaches Curt Wadmark (1948–1967) and Bengt Johansson (1988–2004). The team under Bengt Johansson, nicknamed Bengan Boys in Sweden, is regarded as one of the finest national teams in the history of the sport with players like Tomas Svensson, Staffan Olsson, Magnus Wislander and Stefan Lövgren. From 1990 through 2002 the team reached the medal round in every championship and qualified for a record 8 championship finals in a row 1996–2002.

Sten Torgny Söderberg is a Swedish songwriter. He has worked a lot together with Lena Philipsson and written schlager songs such as "100%", "Kärleken är evig" and "Diggi-loo diggi-ley". "Diggi-loo diggi-ley" won the Swedish Melodifestivalen 1984 and even the Eurovision Song Contest 1984.

Si la vie est cadeau

"Si la vie est cadeau" by Jean-Pierre Millers (music) and Alain Garcia (lyrics) was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1983, performed in French by French singer Corinne Hermès for Luxembourg.

Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley

"Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley" was the winning song in the Eurovision Song Contest 1984 performed in Swedish by the trio of brothers Herrey's, representing Sweden. Lyrics were written by Britt Lindeborg, and the tune by Torgny Söderberg. It was produced by Anders Engberg and Torgny Söderberg.

100% damour

"100% d'amour" was the Luxembourgish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1984, performed in French by 19-year-old musical newcomer Sophie Carle. Despite Luxembourg's storied history in the contest, which included five wins at that point, Carle was only the fourth singer to represent Luxembourg who was native to the Grand Duchy, the three previous being Solange Berry in 1958, Camillo Felgen in 1960 and 1962 and Monique Melsen in 1971.

Sweden competed in Eurovision Song Contest 1966 with the song "Nygammal vals" performed by Lill Lindfors and Svante Thuresson. It was written by Bengt-Arne Wallin and Björn Lindroth. Much thanks to Scandinavian neighbours, Sweden took their best placement so far in ESC this year, held in Luxembourg, with 16 points and a 2nd place.

Sweden held a national preselction named Melodifestivalen 1984 to choose the entry for the Eurovision Song Contest the same year. The winner was the three brothers Herrey, consisting of Richard, Louis and Per. Their song was called "Diggi-loo diggi-ley", and was written by Britt Lindeborg and Torgny Söderberg.

Curt-Eric Holmquist Swedish conductor

Curt-Eric Gunnar Holmquist was a Swedish conductor.

Jullovsmorgon was a TV-series for children broadcast by Sveriges Television every morning during the Swedish Christmas holidays. At the mornings during the Swedish summer holidays a TV-series called Sommarlovsmorgon is broadcast. The 1st "Jullovsmorgon" Gomorron jul with Anita och Televinken was broadcast during the 1970/1971 Christmas and the 39th and last "Jullovsmorgon" Träskändan was broadcast during the 2008/2009 Christmas.

Julstrul med Staffan & Bengt was the Sveriges Television's Christmas calendar in 1984. Almost one in four Swedes watched the show.

Staffan Ling Swedish actor

Staffan Ling is a Swedish actor and television presenter. Ling moved to Umeå to study at the Umeå University during his early years, and became one of the founders of Umeå Nya Studentteater in the year of 1964. He became a producer at Sveriges Radio and SVT in Umeå between 1971 and 1987. Amongst the shows he has presented is the quiz show Femettan broadcast on SVT, the comedy show Parlamentet and the game show Stadskampen both on TV4. Along with actor Bengt Andersson he participated in the kids show Sant och sånt in 1977. He has participated in several of SVTs Julkalendern shows, Julkul med Staffan & Bengt, Julstrul med Staffan och Bengt and Liv i luckan med julkalendern. He is however perhaps best known for hosting the cooking competition show Kockduellen.

Per Göran Svante Grundberg, was a Swedish actor, author, director and stand-up comedian. Grundberg worked as an actor and director at many theaters like Teater 9 and Radioteatern in Stockholm, he made his movie debut in Marianne Ahrne's movie "Frihetens murar" in 1978, and had after that participated in two more of her productions, the TV-series "Den tredje lyckan" in 1983 and the movie "På liv och död" in 1986. He is also known for his role as Mr. Storch in Sällskapsresan in 1980. He acted in all three of the Göta Kanal movies. In 2000, he published the book Nattsuddboken.
