The 1989 season of the African Cup Winners' Cup football club tournament was won by Al Merreikh in two-legged final victory against Bendel United F.C. This was the fifteenth season that the tournament took place for the winners of each African country's domestic cup. Thirty-three sides entered the competition, with UDIB, Al Ahly (Tripoli) and Nakivubo Villa SC all withdrawing before the 1st leg of the first round.

This was the fourteenth season that the tournament took place for the winners of each African country's domestic cup. Thirty-six sides entered the competition, with Dragons de l'Ouémé, Hearts of Oak, Al Madina and KAC Marrakech all withdrawing before the 1st leg of the first round.

The 1994 African Cup Winners' Cup football club tournament was won by DC Motema Pembe in two-legged final victory against Kenya Breweries, who were later renamed to Tusker F.C. in 1999. This was the twentieth season that the tournament took place for the winners of each African country's domestic cup. Thirty-five sides entered the competition and despite the relatively small number of competitors, nine teams were either disqualified or decided to withdraw during the preliminary and first rounds of the competition, where AS Cimelta and Black Africa withdrew before 1st leg of the preliminary round, Al Ahly withdraw before the 1st leg of the first round due to political reasons while Renaissance withdrew after the 1st leg of the first round. On the other hand, teams from Benin, Uganda and Zimbabwe were disqualified because their federations were in debt to CAF; Power Dynamos were disqualified because the Zambian federation did not name its entrant in time as well as the Mauritanian side ASC SNIM. Another two teams withdrew before the 1st leg of the second round, Rayon Sports from Rwanda and LPRC Oilers from Liberia.

History of USM Alger

Union Sportive Médina d'Alger, commonly referred to as USMA, is an Algerian professional association football club based in Algiers, whose first team play in the highest tier of Algerian football, the Ligue 1. Established on 5 July 1937. He won the first trophy in 1963 against the MC Alger and reached the final of the cup. 17 times, a record, including five consecutive times from 1969 to 1973 and won eight first times in 1981 against ASM Oran and last against MC Alger in 2013 also made the USMA Super Cup twice either on the level of the Continental Union did not achieve any title and the best result is the 2015 CAF Champions League Final The team landed to the second division of several times the first from 1965 to 1969 and, latest of which, the longest from 1990 to 1995 USMA won the UAFA Club Cup in 2013 against the Al-Arabi Club Kuwaiti 3-2 on aggregate as the first international title but is not recognized by FIFA.

1975–76 MC Alger season

In the 1975–76 season, MC Alger is competing in the National 1 for the 11st season, as well as the Algerian Cup. It is their 8th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football. They will be competing in National, the Algerian Cup and the African Cup of Champions. In 1976, MC Alger qualified for the African Cup of Champions Clubs for the first time in its history after winning the 1974–75 Algerian Championnat National. They reached the final after beating Al-Ahly Benghazi of Libya, Al Ahly of Egypt, Luo Union of Kenya and Enugu Rangers of Nigeria, respectively. In the final, they met Guinean club Hafia Conakry, who had won the last edition of the competition. In the first leg in Conakry, MC Alger lost 3–0 and faced the difficult task of having to score three goals in the return leg. However, in the return leg, they managed to score the three goals with a brace from Omar Betrouni and a goal from Zoubir Bachi. They went on to win the penalty shootout 4–1 to win their first African title and also become the first Algerian club to win a continental competition.
