In one of the semifinals, Goran Ivanišević defeated Greg Rusedski by winning 20–18 in the third set tiebreak. This was considered the longest tiebreak ever played in an ATP tournament and triple tied the record with two Grand Slam matches, Björn Borg against Premjit Lall at the 1973 Wimbledon Championships and Ivanišević himself against Daniel Nestor at the 1993 US Open. Yevgeny Kafelnikov defeated Thomas Enqvist in the final, 4–6, 6–0, 6–3, 7–6(7–1) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1999 Australian Open. With the win, Kafelnikov became the first Russian to win an Australian Open singles title.
Andre Agassi defeated Andriy Medvedev in the final, 1–6, 2–6, 6–4, 6–3, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1999 French Open. With the win, Agassi became the second man, after Rod Laver, to complete a career Grand Slam in the Open Era. He also achieved a career Super Slam, the only men's singles player to do so.
Two-time defending champion Pete Sampras defeated Andre Agassi in the final, 6–3, 6–4, 7–5 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 1999 Wimbledon Championships. With his sixth Wimbledon crown, Sampras broke Björn Borg's Open Era record of five Wimbledon men's singles titles and equalled Roy Emerson's record of twelve men's singles major titles overall. Sampras's victory over Agassi in the final is often cited as one of the greatest performances in a Wimbledon final. However, despite his victory, Sampras lost the world No. 1 ranking to Agassi, who had recently won the French Open and was attempting to complete the Channel Slam.
Petr Korda defeated Marcelo Ríos in the final, 6–2, 6–2, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1998 Australian Open. It was Korda's only major title, and Ríos' only major final.
Patrick Rafter defeated Greg Rusedski in the final, 6–3, 6–2, 4–6, 7–5 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1997 US Open. It was his maiden major title. Rafter became the first Australian to win the title since John Newcombe in 1973. It was Rusedski's first major final, dedicated in honor of Diana, Princess of Wales, who had died a week earlier in Paris.

The 1998 Croatian Indoors was a men's tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts in Split, Croatia, that was part of the International Series of the 1998 ATP Tour. It was the only edition of the tournament and was held 2–9 February 1998.
Andy Murray defeated Fernando Verdasco in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2017 Dubai Tennis Championships. Murray saved seven match points en route to the title, against Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarterfinals. He won the second set tiebreak of that match with a score of 20–18, equaling the record of the longest tiebreak in history, until the record was broken in 2022.
