The 1997 World Taekwondo Championships were the 13th edition of the World Taekwondo Championships, and were held in Hong Kong from November 19 to November 23, 1997, with 710 athletes participating from 80 countries.

They are sanctioned by the Commonwealth Taekwondo Union, the Commonwealth Games Federation and the World Taekwondo Federation and involve world class competitors, making them a major event in Taekwondo.

Natália Falavigna da Silva is a taekwondo athlete from Brazil. She finished in the fourth place in the women's 67-kilogram category in taekwondo at the 2004 Summer Olympics on August 26, and won the bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. It was the first Brazilian Olympic medal ever in taekwondo.

Chen Zhong is a retired Chinese taekwondo competitor who represented her country at international level for more than 10 years, including three consecutive Summer Olympic Games. She won China's first Olympic gold medal in taekwondo at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, and successfully defended her title at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but did not make it past the quarter-final round.

Daniel Trenton is an Australian lawyer and taekwondo coach who represented his country in the sport at international level. He won a silver medal in the heavyweight (+80 kg) division of men's taekwondo at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Trenton was Head Coach of Australia's Olympic taekwondo team in 2008.

The World Taekwondo Championship is held every two years by World Taekwondo.

Óscar Salazar Blanco is a Mexican taekwondo practitioner and Olympic medalist. He competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he received a silver medal in the 58 kg class. He won a gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg.

The European Taekwondo Championships are the European senior championships in Taekwondo, first held in Barcelona in 1976. The 2022 World Taekwondo Championships was the 25th edition of the World Taekwondo Championships and was held at the Centro Acuático CODE Metropolitano, in Guadalajara, Mexico from 13 to 20 November 2022. It was at first scheduled to be held in Wuxi, China in 2021, but withdrawn due to the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic to get the 2025 edition. In January 2022, the event was first moved to Cancún, Mexico. This was the second time after 2013, that Mexico has held the event.

Cecilia Castro Burgos is a Spanish taekwondo practitioner. She won one of the bronze medals in the women's welterweight event at the 2022 World Taekwondo Championships held in Guadalajara, Mexico. She won the gold medal in her event at the 2022 European Taekwondo Championships held in Manchester, United Kingdom.
