The 1998 Honda Grand Prix of Monterey Featuring The Texaco-Havoline 300 was the sixteenth round of the 1998 CART FedEx Champ Car World Series season, held on September 13, 1998, at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. Bryan Herta led the race from start to finish with the exception of pit stops, and held off Alex Zanardi at the end to take his first ever CART win. [1]

Founded on June 3, 1770, Monterey was the capital of Alta California under both Spain and Mexico until 1850. Monterey hosted California's first theater, public building, public library, publicly funded school, printing press, and newspaper. Monterey was the only port of entry for taxable goods in California. In 1846, the U.S. flag was raised over the Customs House, and California became part of the United States after the Mexican–American War.

Bryan John Herta is an American race car driver. He currently runs his own team, Bryan Herta Autosport in the Verizon IndyCar Series. His team won the 2011 Indianapolis 500 with driver Dan Wheldon and the 2016 Indianapolis 500 with driver Alexander Rossi. He is the father of Indy Lights driver Colton Herta.

2012 United States motorcycle Grand Prix

The 2012 United States motorcycle Grand Prix was the tenth round of the 2012 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season, and the first of two races in the 2012 season to take place in the United States of America. It was held on 29 July at the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California.

The Penske PC-27 was a CART racing car designed by John Travis and manufactured by Penske Cars in Poole, Dorset. The design was based around the team's 1997 car, the PC-26. It competed in the 1998 CART season and, as the PC-27B, in part of the 1999 season. In the 30 races that it took part in, its best finish was second at the 1998 Budweiser 500k in Japan. The PC-27 was the last CART racing car built by Penske, before the team switched permanently to customer chassis.

The Penske PC-25 was a CART racing car that competed in the 1996 IndyCar season with Marlboro Team Penske and Hogan Penske Racing. It was designed by Nigel Bennett.

The 2001 Tecate/Telmex Grand Prix of Monterrey was a Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) motor race held on March 11, 2001 at Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Mexico in front of a crowd of 116,000 people. It was the first round of the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series season and the inaugural open-wheel race at Monterrey. It was the first time CART had raced in Mexico since 1981. Newman/Haas Racing driver Cristiano da Matta led 32 laps of a timed race en route to his second career victory and his first with the team. Defending series champion Gil de Ferran finished 2nd and Paul Tracy finished 3rd.
