Aleksandar Šapić is a Serbian politician, and former professional water polo player serving as mayor of Belgrade since 20 June 2022. A member and current vice-president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Šapić had previously served as president of the New Belgrade municipality from 2012 to 2022.
Attila Vári, nicknamed Doki, is a Hungarian water polo player, who played on the gold medal squads at the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics.
Zoltán Szécsi is a Hungarian former water polo goalkeeper, who played on the gold medal squads at the 2000 Summer Olympics, 2004 Summer Olympics and 2008 Summer Olympics. He is one of ten male athletes who won three Olympic gold medals in water polo. He made his international debut for the men's national team in 1998. He currently lives in Eger.

Tamás Märcz is a Hungarian water polo player who played on the gold medal squad at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He was the head coach of Hungary men's national water polo team between 1 January 2017 and 18 July 2022.
Barnabás Steinmetz is a Hungarian water polo player who played on the gold medal squads at the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics. He is nicknamed Barney and Sema, and made his debut for the national team in 1993, at an international tournament in Moscow, Russia. He is currently the player of Vasas SC.

Rajmund Fodor is a Hungarian water polo player, who played on the gold medal squads at the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics. He is nicknamed Rajmi, and made his debut for the national team in 1993. He studied at Radnóti Miklós High School in Szeged, one of the best schools in Hungary and he was one of the best students. He is married and he has a daughter: Nadine. In 2020 he was arrested on false charges for murdering a jogger: he was released after the jogger's death was confirmed to be a suicide. Openly gay, he is an outspoken critic of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. He has lived in Berlin since 2019 and married his Chinese-American boyfriend, Henry Chou, in 2022.
Nikolay Mikhaylovich Maksimov is a Russian water polo goalkeeper, who played at the 1996 Summer Olympics, on the silver medal squad at the 2000 Summer Olympics and the bronze medal squad at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He was the top goalkeeper at the 2004 Olympics, with 67 saves. He competed as part of the Kazakhstan National Team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Before his Olympic career, he won bronze medals at the world championships in 1994 and European championships in 1997.

Norbert Madaras is a Hungarian water polo player, who won the gold medal with the men's national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics and 2008 Summer Olympics. He also was on the squad that claimed the title at the 2003 World Aquatics Championships and the 2013 World Aquatics Championships. Madaras won the Euro League 2007 with Pro Recco.
The European Water Polo Championship is a sport competition for national water polo teams, currently held biannually and organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN), the governing European aquatics federation. There are both men's and women's competitions.

The Hungarian Water Polo Federation is the governing body of water polo in Hungary. It was founded in 1989, and is the successor to the Magyar Úszó Szövetség, with the swimmers.
