A.S.D. Pro Recco (Official name: Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Pro Recco) is an Italian professional water polo club from Recco, in Liguria. It currently plays in Serie A1.

Pro Recco is the most successful club in men's water polo. In men's domestic water polo, the club has won a record 52 trophies: a record 35 Serie A1 titles, [1] a record 17 Coppa Italia. In men's LEN European competitions, Pro Recco have won a record 20 trophies: a record 11 LEN Champions League titles, a record 9 LEN Super Cups. The club has also won 1 Adriatic League title.

In women's water polo, the women's team won 1 women's Serie A1 titles, 1 LEN Euro League Women title, 1 Women's LEN Super Cup, making Pro Recco the first sports club in history to have been crowned European Champions with both its men's and women's teams.

History

Pro Recco was founded in 1913 as Rari Nantes Enotria. It has played in the A1 league, the Italian top division, since 1935.

The club is owned by Genovese businessman Gabriele Volpi, who also owns football club Spezia, competing in Serie A, the first tier of Italian football leagues.

It has won a total of 35 national titles, the first in 1959 and the latest in 2023; and the Coppa Italia in 1974, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. [2] [3] They have won the LEN Champions League in 1964, 1983, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2021, 2022 and 2023; the LEN Super Cup in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2021, 2022, 2023.

Pro Recco has had a women's team since the 2011–12 season.

He held the world title in 2009 and 2015 and the European title in 2006, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. Pijetlović won three consecutive Euroleague titles with three teams: in 2011 with Partizan in 2012 with Pro Recco and in 2013 with Crvena Zvezda.

Andrija Prlainović is a Serbian professional water polo player widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo teams that won bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and gold medals in 2016 and 2020. He also held the world title in 2009 and 2015 and the European title in 2006, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. In 2011, he won the LEN Euroleague with VK Partizan and in 2013 with Red Star Belgrade, where he was one of the best scorers.

Aleksandar Ivović, is a Montenegrin professional water polo player. He started his career at PVK Jadran, which is his first senior team to compete for. He was a member of the Montenegro men's national water polo team at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The team reached the semifinals, where they were defeated by Hungary and then lost to Serbia in the bronze medal match. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he was again a member of Montenegro's team, where they lost to Croatia in the semi-final, and then lost to Serbia again in the bronze medal match, this time 11–12. He is considered one of the best defenders of all time and by many the top in his position in the world as he can transform the entire defense of his team.

Maro Joković is a Croatian water polo player. He is left-handed and plays in the right wing position. He competed at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics and won a gold medal in 2012 and a silver in 2016. He held the world title in 2007 and the European title in 2010.

The LEN Champions League is the top-tier European professional water polo club competition with teams from up to 18 countries. It is organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation.

Stefano Tempesti is an Italian water polo goalkeeper. He competed at five consecutive Olympics between 2000 and 2016 and won a silver medal in 2012 and a bronze in 2016. He is the second water polo goalkeeper to compete at five Olympics, after Spaniard Jesús Rollán. Tempesti was the top goalkeeper at the 2008 Olympics, with 83 saves. He was also the top goalkeeper at the 2012 Olympics, with 87 saves.

Afterwards he competed for his birth country in the 2016 Summer Olympics, as Brazil earned its first qualifying spot in 32 years as hosts. He helped Spanish water polo club CN Atlètic-Barceloneta win the LEN Champions League in 2013–14 season. His brother Ricardo Perrone also competed for Spain in water polo.
