The 2001 Nova Supersports Cup was an association football friendly tournament competition hosted by Greek premium sports network Nova Sports in 2001, held in Athens. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Contents

The tournament occurred on 3 August 2001 with the participation of Greek Alpha Ethniki club AEK Athens, Sevilla from the La Liga and Bologna from the Serie A, which eventually won the tournament. [5] [6]

Venue

All the games were played at the Nikos Goumas Stadium a 27,729-seat multi-use venue, home ground of hosts AEK Athens. The ground was demolished in June 2003.

A.E.K. Football Club, known simply as A.E.K in Greece and AEK Athens internationally, is a Greek professional football club based in Nea Filadelfia, Athens, Greece.

Andreas Zafiropoulos is a Greek businessman and was the major shareholder of AEK Athens F.C. for eleven years, from 1981 to 1992. The 2003–04 season was the 80th season in the existence of AEK Athens F.C. and the 45th consecutive season in the top flight of Greek football. They competed in the Alpha Ethniki, the Greek Cup and the UEFA Champions League. The season began on 17 August 2003 and finished on 22 May 2004.

The Agia Sophia Stadium, also known as OPAP Arena for sponsorship reasons and as AEK Arena for UEFA competitions, is the home stadium of AEK Athens. With an all-seater capacity of 32,500 it is the third largest football stadium overall in Greece. It is located in Nea Filadelfeia, a northwestern suburb of Athens, Greece. The new arena was built on the site of the former Nikos Goumas Stadium. The construction of the arena was completed in October 2022. Agia Sophia Stadium is the newest stadium built in Greece.
