The 51st Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 1, 2001, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Bienvenido Nebres, S.J. was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year's awarding ceremony. [1]

Leoncio P. Deriada and Alfred A. Yuson were this year's Palanca Hall of Fame awardees. Deriada clinched his fifth first prize for “Maragtas: How Kapinangan Tricked Sumakwel Thrice” under the Full-Length Play category. And Yuson clinched his fifth first prize for “Pillage and Other Poems” under the Poetry category. The said award is given to writers who have won five (5) first places in any category. [2]

The Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, popularly known as the Palanca Awards, are a set of literary awards for Philippine writers. This year saw the inclusion of a new a new category, Future Fiction, open for short stories that deal with the future of the Philippines or the future of Philippine writing, in English and Filipino.

According to the Palanca Foundation, 62 percent of this year’s awardees were first time winners. National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year’s awarding ceremony. This year saw the inclusion of a new category, Poetry Written for Children/Tulang Pambata, in both the English and Filipino Divisions.

The 68th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on October 5, 2018, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. A total of 54 writers, 28 of which were first-time awardees, were chosen as this year's batch of winners. Alfred “Krip” Yuson was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year's awarding ceremony.
