The 69th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on November 8, 2019, at the Peninsula Hotel Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. Fifty-six writers, 32 of whom won the award for the first time, received the prestigious literary award. There were a total of 22 writing categories, with the bi-annual Novel and Novela categories open for this year. Dr. Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year’s awarding ceremony. [1]

Lamberto E. Antonio was this year's Palanca Hall of Fame awardee. He clinched his fifth first prize for “Turno Kung Nokturno at Iba pang Tiyempo ng Rilyebo sa Pagberso” under the Tula category. [2] The said award is given to writers who have won five (5) first places in any category. [3]

Also, the ceremonies saw the posthumous awarding of Milagros Palanca-Furer, the proponent of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. She was instrumental in helping spur creative writing in the country and is being rightfully recognized for her unwavering dedication to the interest of the Filipino writer. [4]

Ruth Elynia S. Mabanglo is a retired professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She was the coordinator for the Filipino and Philippine Literature Program. Her most recent publications were "Balada ni Lola Amonita" and "The Ballad of Lola Amonita" in Babaylan: An Anthology of Filipina and Filipina American Writers, edited by Nick Carbó and Eileen Tabios and published by Aunt Lute Books in the year 2000.

The 59th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 1, 2009, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. According to the Palanca Foundation, 62 percent of this year’s awardees were first time winners. National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year’s awarding ceremony. The awarding body received almost a thousand entries this year in 20 categories. Antonio “Tony” Mabesa was guest of honor and speaker at the awarding ceremony.

The 67th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 1, 2017, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. Fifty-one writers were awarded this year, with 23 of them being first-time awardees. Dr. Jose “Butch” Dalisay Jr. was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year's awarding ceremony.

The 71st Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on November 27, 2023, at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country.
