The 55th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 1, 2005, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. Dr. Emerlinda Roman, the first female president of the University of the Philippines, was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year’s awarding ceremony. [1]

Rodolfo R. Lana Jr., Manuel R. Buising, and Luis P. Gatmaitan were this year's Palanca Hall of Fame awardees. Lana clinched his fifth first prize for “Milagroso” under the Dulang Pantelebisyon category. Buising clinched his fifth first prize for “Niños Inocentes” also under the Dulang Pantelebisyon category. And Gatmaitan clinched his fifth first prize for “Tapok at Banlik” under the Sanaysay category. The award is given to writers who have won five first places in any category. [2]

The Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, popularly known as the Palanca Awards, are a set of literary awards for Philippine writers. The 48th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. This year saw the inclusion of a new Regional Language Division with three categories, open for short stories in three regional languages, Cebuano, Hiligaynon, and Iluko.

National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year’s awarding ceremony.

The 50th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 1, 2000, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. This year saw the inclusion of a new a new category, Future Fiction, open for short stories that deal with the future of the Philippines or the future of Philippine writing, in English and Filipino.

Rene O. Villanueva was a Filipino playwright and author. He is famed for his deep involvement in theater and television and in children's literature, whether it be on television, in books or on stage.

The 57th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 1, 2007, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. Senator Mar Roxas was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year's awarding ceremony. This year saw the discontinuation of the Dulang Pantelebisyon category in the Filipino Division, after seventeen years. Also discontinued is the Future Fiction category, English and Filipino, after seven years.

Gilda Cordero-Fernando was Guest of Honor and Speaker at this year’s awarding ceremony.

The 63rd Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 1, 2013, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. The competition received more than 1,100 literary entries, and of the number, the judges picked 58 winning pieces. National Artist for Literature Cirilo F. Bautista was guest of honor and speaker at the awarding ceremony.

The 66th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held on September 2, 2016, at The Peninsula Manila in Makati to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. The awarding body received almost a thousand entries this year in 20 categories. Antonio “Tony” Mabesa was guest of honor and speaker at the awarding ceremony.
