Dorival Silvestre Júnior is a Brazilian professional football coach and former player who played as a defensive midfielder. He is the current head coach of São Paulo.
The 2003 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A was the 47th edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. The first edition with only a double round-robin and no playoffs, it began on March 29, 2003, and reached its end on December 14. The competition was won by Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, who completed a treble.
The 2005 season was São Paulo's 76th season since club's existence. In this season Tricolor won the Campeonato Paulista, league of State of São Paulo for the 21st time and the continental cup, Copa Libertadores de America, beating Atlético Paranaense in the first final with teams from the same country of tournament history, winning by 4–0 in the second match, 5–1 in aggregate. The continental title enabled São Paulo to participate of FIFA Club World Championship in the end of season when the club became a world champion for the third time, defeating the English club, European champions Liverpool in the final with a single goal scored by Mineiro in the 27th minute of first time. In the Campeonato Brasileiro São Paulo finished in 11th position and was eliminated by Internacional in first round of Copa Sudamericana.
The 2006 season was São Paulo's 77th season in the club's existence. São Paulo finished in the second position in the Campeonato Paulista, only one point behind the winners Santos. A year after winning the Copa Libertadores, São Paulo once again challenged for the cup, being defeated by Internacional in a second final between Brazilian teams in a row, having beaten Atlético Paranaense in the previous edition. São Paulo lost by 2–1 in the Morumbi and drew in 2–2 on away second leg, thus coming in second place. As the current champions of Copa Libertadores, São Paulo played the Recopa Sudamericana versus Boca Juniors and was defeated by 4–3 on aggregate. Tricolor won the Campeonato Brasileiro fifteen years after their last title, in 1991 and became national champions for the fourth time, securing the title in 36th matchweek against Atlético Paranaense in the Morumbi with a 1–1 draw.

São Paulo played Campeonato Paulista, State of São Paulo league, being defeated in a single match quarterfinal by São Caetano, 0–2, at home field due advantage points in first phase. After 10 years the club return to play the continental tournament, Copa Libertadores, that were champions in 1992, 1993 and runners-up in 1994 the last participation before 2004, reached this time the semifinals where they lost to Once Caldas in away game for 1–2 after a 0–0 in Morumbi. In Campeonato Brasileiro ending the 46 rounds with a third position, but the featured unpleasant happened in 38th match against São Caetano on 27 October when the defender of adversary Serginho fell in the field near the small area of São Caetano's defence suffering a fatal cardiac arrest at 60 minutes. With announcement of his death the match was finished and the remainder was played on 3 November. In Copa Sudamericana Tricolor was eliminated by rival Santos in second stage.

The club arrived in third place final in the first time when Série A was disputed in accumulated points system. In his first participation in Copa Sudamericana reached semifinals losing to Argentine club River Plate in penalty shootouts for 2–4 in a match that had fights and aggressions between players of both teams. The featured of year was the striker Luís Fabiano which scored 46 goals in whole season, 29 only in league.

The 2013 Copa do Brasil was the 25th edition of the Copa do Brasil. It began on February 27 and ended on November 27. The competition was contested by 87 teams, either qualified through participating in their respective state championships (71), by the CBF Rankings (10) or those qualified for 2013 Copa Libertadores (6). Clubs that qualify for the 2013 Copa Libertadores entered the competition in the Round of 16. The best 8 teams of 2012 Campeonato Brasileiro eliminated up to the third round qualifies for 2013 Copa Sudamericana which was contested in the second half of 2013.
The 2013 season marked São Paulo's 84th year since the club's existence. Playing in the Campeonato Paulista, the club reached the semi-finals, before being eliminated in a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 (3-4) against Corinthians. São Paulo participated in the continental tournament, Copa Libertadores, returning to the most important South American competition following a two-year absence, in a spot by the title of Copa Sudamericana won in the previous year and by the qualifying group of national league with a 4th position reached in the end of competition. Due to the continental title of Copa Sudamericana, the team was enabled to dispute of Recopa Sudamericana and Suruga Bank Championship. In the first opportunity of title by the Recopa Sudamericana the Tricolor was defeated by rival with a two-legs lost. Before long the club went to Japan to compete the Suruga Bank Championship and over again was defeated by opponent in a single match result: 2–3. In participation of Copa Libertadores the team advanced the first and second stages but was eliminated on the round of 16 by the club which would be champion that year, Atlético Mineiro, with two negative results. In the second half of the year, São Paulo had hard times with an historical winless sequence of 14 matches being only closed in a friendly match against Benfica just after 2 months and hand an official victory against Fluminense 2 weeks later by the Campeonato Brasileiro. Due to the negative campaign Tricolor remained on the relegated group for 11 rounds achieving the 9th position on the end of season by recovery at the second half of championship after the return of notable coach Muricy Ramalho who trained São Paulo in two previous opportunities reaching 4 titles including an historical sequence of 3 titles in national league. After Muricy Ramalho's arrival the team improved the average of points earned, reaching the fourth position in second half of league. In the end of season São Paulo play the Copa Sudamericana by defend of the title won in the previous edition, however the team was defeated in semi-finals by another paulista club Ponte Preta with.

The team played the Campeonato Paulista between January and March being defeated in the quarterfinal single match against Penapolense, after a 0-0 draw in the home stadium Morumbi, São Paulo's fall in the penalty shootout by 4-5. In the Copa do Brasil the club reach the third round when it was beaten by Bragantino with an aggregated score of 3-4. The second half of the year was most promising to the Muricy Ramalho's team, in Copa Sudamericana Tricolor was only defeated in the semifinals in face of Colombian club Atlético Nacional over again on penalty shootout this time by 1-4. In the national league Série A, the Dearest take a place in the Copa Libertadores ending the table on second place with 70 points, 10 behind the absolute champion Cruzeiro. The highlight of the year was the return of Kaká, the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2007. Kaká was loaned by American club Orlando City until the end of the season and played 24 matches scoring 3 goals. In the last match of midfielder at November 30, in a 1-1 draw against Figueirense in a game by 37th round of the league, Kaká was acclaimed for more than 30,000 São Paulo fans. Other highlight was noted by the 41 years old capitain Rogerio Ceni that announced the retirement at the end of season. The goalkeeper surpass the mark of 590 victories in official matches reached by Ryan Giggs, the feat was done in October 27 after a 3-0 victory over Goiás. Rogério also arrived the number of 123 goals, almost twice the mark of the second goalkeeper goalscorer Chilavert with 62 goals. Only two matches before the end of season Rogério postponed his retirement to 2015 season.
