The 2005 season was a mixed one for Tokyo Verdy 1969. On the one hand they finished 17th out of 18 teams in the J-League 1 competition, and were relegated to J.League Division 2 for the 2006 season, but on the other they pulled off an upset 3-0 victory in a friendly pre-season game against Real Madrid in Tokyo. 2010 Gamba Osaka season
The 2012 Cerezo Osaka season is Cerezo Osaka's 3rd consecutive season, 14th season overall in J.League Division 1 and 40th overall in the Japanese top flight. It also includes the 2012 J.League Cup and the 2011 Emperor's Cup. 2012 is Sérgio Soares's first season at Cerezo after Levir Culpi left at the end of last season.
The 2012 Sagan Tosu season was Sagan Tosu's first season in J.League Division 1 after being promoted for J.League Division 2 in 2011. They finished the season in fifth position, narrowly missing out on an AFC Champions League spot by two points. They also participated in the J.League Cup, going out in the group stages, and the Emperor's Cup, where they reached the second round before defeat to Kamatamare Sanuki. It was their second season with Yoon Jung-hwan as their manager, and Yohei Toyoda was their top goalscorer with 16 league goals.

The 2005 season was an average one for Júbilo Iwata. They came sixth in the J-League 1, advanced to the Quarterfinals in the Emperors and J-League Cups, and played a friendly against Real Madrid, which they lost.
