The United States Open Tennis Championships is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually at Flushing Meadows, starting on the last Monday in August and lasting for two weeks. The tournament consists of five main championship events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, with additional tournaments for seniors, juniors, and wheelchair players.
In 2005, Andy Murray was the defending champion in the boys' singles event, [1] but did not complete in Juniors this year. The event was won by Ryan Sweeting of the Bahamas who beat Jérémy Chardy of France, 6–4, 6–4 in the final. [2]

Jérémy Chardy is a French professional tennis player. He has won one ATP Tour singles title, in Stuttgart in 2009. His best Grand Slam performance in singles was reaching the quarterfinals of the 2013 Australian Open, and in doubles was reaching the final at the 2019 French Open with compatriot Fabrice Martin. He achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 25 on 28 January 2013 and No. 24 on 3 February 2020 in doubles.

Roger Federer defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–0, 7–6 (9–7), to win the men's singles title at the 2012 Cincinnati Masters. It was his record fifth title at the Cincinnati Masters, and the first occasion that a player won an ATP Masters 1000 event without having serve broken or losing a set. Federer would repeat this accomplishment at the 2015 event. It was Djokovic's fourth runner-up finish at the Cincinnati Masters.
Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–4, 7–5, 6–4 to win the Gentlemen's Singles tennis title at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. He became the first British man to win the wimbledon men's singles title since Fred Perry in 1936, ending a 76-year drought, as well as the first British winner in singles since Virginia Wade won the women's event in 1977. He was also the first Scot to win the Wimbledon men's singles title since Harold Mahony in 1896. Djokovic advanced to the final after a five-set semifinal against Juan Martín del Potro. At 4 hours and 43 minutes this match was the then-longest semifinal ever contested at Wimbledon, breaking the previous record set by Boris Becker and Ivan Lendl in 1989.

Djokovic and Nadal were also in contention for the world No. 1 singles ranking; Djokovic retained the top ranking by reaching the fourth round. Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies won the men's doubles tennis title at the 2019 French Open defeating Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin in the final 6–2, 7–6(7–3). Chardy and Martin were the fourth all-French team to reach the French Open men's doubles final in seven years, and for the second time in three years none of the four players had previously played in a Grand Slam men's doubles final.
Henri Kontinen and John Peers were the defending champions, but lost in the semifinals to Feliciano López and Andy Murray.
Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert defeated Alexander Bublik and Andrey Golubev in the final, 4–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–4, to win the men's doubles title at the 2021 French Open. It was their second French Open title and fifth major title together. They saved match points in their semifinal match against Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah. Bublik and Golubev became the first male Kazakhstani players to reach a major final.
