The 2005–06 Iran Pro League was the 23rd season of Iran's Football League and fifth as Iran Pro League since its establishment in 2001. Foolad were the defending champions. The season featured 14 teams from the 2004–05 Iran Pro League and two new teams promoted from the 2004–05 Azadegan League: Shahid Ghandi as champions and Rah Ahan as runner-up. The league started on 2 September 2005 and ended on 21 April 2006. Esteghlal won the Pro League title for the first time in their history. A total of 240 matches in the Pro League yielded 538 goals during the season.
The 2005–06 Hazfi Cup was the 19th staging of Iran's football knockout competition organised annually by the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran.
The 2011–12 season was the Persepolis's 11th season in the Pro League, and their 29th consecutive season in the top division of Iranian Football. They competed in the Champions League. They also competed in the Hazfi Cup but were eliminated by Esteghlal in the quarter-finals. Persepolis is captained by Ali Karimi.
The 2012–13 Hazfi Cup was the 26th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. Esteghlal was the defending champion, but was eliminated by Sepahan in the semi-final. The competition started on 13 December 2012 and ended on 5 May 2013. Sepahan won the title after defeating Persepolis in final.

The 2017–18 Hazfi Shield Cup was the 31st season of the Iranian football knockout competition. The competition begin in August 2017 and the final was played on May 3, 2018. Mehdi Sharifi, then center forward for Persian side Tractor SC was the Cup's top scorer with five goals. The Cup was won by Esteghla FC in a 1–0 victory over Khooneh Be Khooneh. The final's only goal was scored by Mame Thiam, an Esteghlal forward in the 35' minute of the game. This was Esteghlal seventh Hazfi Cup title.

The 2000–01 season are the Esteghlal Football Club's 9th season in the Azadegan League, and their 7th consecutive season in the top division of Iranian football. They are also competing in the Hazfi Cup and Asian Cup Winners' Cup, and 56th year in existence as a football club.
The 2019–20 Hazfi Cup was the 33rd season of the Iranian football knockout competition. The competition began in August 2019 and the final was played on September 3, 2020, which Tractor won for their 2nd title.
The 2000–01 season was the Persepolis's 10th season in the Azadegan League, and their 18th consecutive season in the top division of Iranian Football. They were also competing in the Hazfi Cup and Asian Club Championship. Persepolis was captained by Ahmad Reza Abedzadeh.
