The 2006 Asian Taekwondo Championships are the 17th edition of the Asian Taekwondo Championships, and were held in Bangkok, Thailand from April 21 to April 23, 2006.

Taekwondo, also spelled tae kwon do or taekwon-do, is a Korean martial art involving punching and kicking techniques. The literal translation for taekwondo is "kicking", "punching", and "the art or way of". It sometimes involves the use of weapons.
Steven López is an American taekwondo competitor, a 2000 and 2004 Olympic gold medalist and a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist and 4th Dan in taekwondo. In 2001, he won the Lightweight Taekwondo World Championship, and in 2003 he won the Welterweight Taekwondo World Championship which he has since won in 2005, 2007 and 2009 making him the first Taekwondo fighter to win 5 World Championships. With 2 Olympic titles, 5 titles in taekwondo world championships and 1 title in taekwondo world cup he is the most titled champion after Hadi Saei who earns 9 world class titles.
Yong Chin Pak is a 6th dan judo, 9th dan hapkido, and 8th dan taekwondo master and adjunct instructor in Exercise Sport Science and instructed students in the martial arts at Iowa State University from 1973 to 2013. He graduated from Yongin University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and was President of the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association from 1986 to 2007.
Bahri Tanrıkulu is a Turkish taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the Men's 80 kg division at the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens, Greece and won the silver medal. He studied at Akdeniz University.
Rhee Chong-chul is a South Korean master of taekwondo who arrived to Australia in the 1960s. He is the founder of Rhee Taekwon-Do, which is widely publicised as Australia's first and biggest taekwondo school. Rhee holds the title 'World Master' and the rank of 8th dan in taekwondo. He is one of the twelve original masters of taekwondo of the Korea Taekwon-Do Association (KTA).
Ivett Gonda is a Hungarian-born Canadian retired taekwondo competitor. She moved to Canada when she was four. From 1995 to mid 2013 Gonda competed professionally for Canada until she decided to compete for her native country, Hungary. Though currently competing for another nation, Ivett still continues to train and live in Canada.
Rhee Jhoon-goo, commonly known as Jhoon Rhee, was a Korean-American taekwondo partitioner. He is widely recognized as the 'Father of American Taekwondo' for introducing this martial art to the United States of America, after arriving in the 1950s. He was ranked 10th dan, and held the title of Grandmaster.
Chen Zhong is a retired Chinese taekwondo competitor who represented her country at international level for more than 10 years, including three consecutive Summer Olympic Games. She won China's first Olympic gold medal in taekwondo at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, and successfully defended her title at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but did not make it past the quarter-final round.
Daniel Trenton is an Australian lawyer and taekwondo coach who represented his country in the sport at international level. He won a silver medal in the heavyweight (+80 kg) division of men's taekwondo at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Trenton was Head Coach of Australia's Olympic taekwondo team in 2008.
Lee Seung-Min (이승민) is a Korean taekwondo coach and former world champion in women's taekwondo representing South Korea.
Hadi Saei is an Iranian councilor and former taekwondo athlete who became the most successful Iranian athlete in Olympic history and the most titled champion in this sport by winning 9 world class titles . Earlier in his career and in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Saei had won the Bronze medal. He was elected as member of City Council of Tehran in 2006 local elections and was reelected in 2013 but lost the 2017 election. He is one of the three most medal winners olympians in the sport of Taekwondo.
The 1998 Asian Games was a multi-sport event held in Bangkok, Thailand from December 6 to December 20, 1998. A total of 6,544 athletes from 41 Asian National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participated in these games, competing in 376 events in 36 sports. This edition of the Games marked the addition of three sports—squash, rugby union and cue sports—to the list of Asian Games sports; squash was included after seven years of lobbying by the Asian Squash Federation.

The Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) is the national governing body to develop and promote the sport of Taekwondo in the Pakistan. The federation is headquartered in Rawalpindi.
The GCC Games is a regional multi-sport event which involves participants from the Gulf Cooperation Council region. The GCC Games, a quadrennial multi-sport event, was established by the union and first held in 2011. There are numerous long-running GCC Championships for individual sports, including: the Gulf Cooperation Council Athletics Championships football, Archery, athletics, Badminton, sailing, basketball, Swimming, Marathon Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming, tennis, gymnastics, weightlifting, futsal, snooker, Cycling, Chess and table tennis. The 3rd edition of the game had to be organized in June 2019, but held in 2022 due to the internal issues between the GCC state countries. The 4th edition has been announced and will happen as per the announced dates. For the first time the games will be organized by the new, young and talented faces of GCC team.
Tae-ho Kwon is a Korean taekwondo practitioner. He competed in the men's finweight at the 1988 Summer Olympics.
The 2021 European Taekwondo Championships, the 24th edition of the European Taekwondo Championships, was held in Sofia, Bulgaria at the Grand Hotel Millennium Sofia from 8 to 11 April 2021.
Ehsan Naghibzadeh is a male Iranian Taekwondo practitioner, who lives in Switzerland. He is a former member of the Iranian Taekwondo National Team and a 4th DAN in Taekwondo. He is a gold medalist in 2010 West Asian Championships in Saudi Arabia, a silver medalist in the 2010 World University Championships in Spain and a silver medalist in the 2011 Asian Club Championships in Iran. Furthermore, he took part in the World Championships in Puebla, Mexico in 2013 for the Iranian Nationalteam, where the team achieved the 2nd place. Since 2019, he is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) refugee athlete scholarship holder for Tokyo Olympic Games. Since 2019, Naghibzadeh is competing as a refugee athlete. He won bronze at the European University Championships in Croatia in 2019. He also participated in the European Taekwondo Championships 2019 in Bari. Also in 2019, Naghibzadeh was part of the Booyoung Dream Program, which was held in South Korea. World Taekwondo selected 19 Olympic Hopefuls to be part of the program. In 2021, he participated in the European Taekwondo Championships in Sofia. Naghibzadeh also won medals in several international olympic ranking tournaments
