The 2006 Badminton World Cup was the twenty-first edition of the international Badminton World Cup tournament. The event was held at the Olympic Sports Park in Yiyang, Hunan, China, from 24 to 28 October 2006. It was organized by the Table Tennis and Badminton Administration Center under the General Administration of Sport of China, hosted by the Hunan Sports Bureau and the Yiyang People's Government, and also co-organized by China Mobile Group Hunan Co., Ltd., with a total prize money of US$250,000. [1] Some of top players declined to participate, since there is no ranking points awarded in this tournament, and tight competition schedule at that year, with also held the World Championship, Thomas & Uber Cup, Asian Games, and the European Club League. In the end, the host Chinese national team won the men's singles, women's singles and women's doubles, while the men's and mixed doubles won by Indonesian players. [2]

Lin Dan is a Chinese former professional badminton player. He is a two-time Olympic champion, five-time World champion, as well as a six-time All England champion. Widely regarded as the greatest badminton player of all time, by the age of 28 Lin had completed the "Super Grand Slam", having won what some consider to be the nine major titles in the badminton world: Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Super Series Masters Finals, All England Open, Asian Games, and Asian Championships, becoming the first and only player to achieve this feat. He also became the first men's singles player to retain the Olympic gold medal by winning in 2008 and successfully defending his title in 2012.
Liu Yuchen is a Chinese badminton player. He was the men's doubles World Champion in 2018, two-time Asian Champion in 2017 and 2018, and also a silver medalist at the 2020 Summer Olympics partnered with Li Junhui. Liu was part of the national team that won the 2018 Asian Games, 2018 Thomas Cup, and 2019 Sudirman Cup. Together with Li, he achieved the men's doubles world number 1 in 6 April 2017, and occupied the top ranking for ten weeks.
Qiao Bin is a Chinese badminton player. He won his first senior international title at the China International tournament. In 2016, Qiao who ranked 41 at that time clinched the Superseries title at the Korea Open, defeated the sixth seed, world number eight, Son Wan-ho in the final.
Feng Chen is a retired Chinese badminton player. She was selected to join the Chinese junior team competed at the 2002 and 2004 Asian Junior Championships, and has collected 2 gold medals from the girls' team event, a gold in the mixed doubles, and a silver in the girls' doubles. Feng then won the mixed team gold medal at the 2004 World Junior Championships, and also clinched the silver medal in the girls' doubles event. In the senior international level, she was the runners-up at the 2004 French and Polish International tournaments. Feng also was the mixed doubles semifinalist at the World Grand Prix tournament, in 2005 China Masters partnered with He Hanbin. At the 2006 World University Championships in China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, she claimed three gold medals in the women's doubles, mixed doubles, and team event.
Chen Xiaojia is a retired Chinese badminton player from Xiangtan, Hunan. She was selected to join the national second team in 2008. Chen was the gold medalist at the 2009 Asian Junior Championships and the bronze medalist at the World Junior Championships, She represented China at the 2009 East Asian Games, and claimed the gold medal in the women's team event, and a bronze medal in the women's singles. Chen clinched the women's singles title at the 2011 Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold after beat the Frech veteran Pi Hongyan in rubber game.
Dong Wenjing is a Chinese badminton player from Guangxi. She was part of the national women's team that won the silver medal at the 2018 Badminton Asia Team Championships held in Alor Setar, Malaysia. Dong also play for the national team at the 2019 Asia Mixed Team Championships, clinched a gold medal and won the Tong Yun Kai Cup.
Liu Xuanxuan is a Chinese badminton player from Hunan. She was part of the national junior team that won the mixed team title at the 2017 and 2018 World Junior Championships and also at the 2018 Asian Junior Championships. In the individual junior event, she was the girls' doubles champion at the 2018 World Junior Championships partnered with Xia Yuting. Liu won her first senior international title at the 2018 Lingshui China Masters in the mixed doubles event partnered with Guo Xinwa.
Wang Chang is a Chinese badminton player. He was the boys' doubles World Junior champion and two times Asian Junior champion partnering Di Zijian. Wang was part of Chinese winning team at the 2023 Sudirman Cup, and together with Liang Weikeng, they won the bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships. Wang and Liang reached a career high of world number 1 on 31st of October 2023.

It was sanctioned by the International Badminton Federation and Table Tennis and Badminton Administration Center under China's State General Administration of Sport, with a total prize money of US$250,000. This was the first time after 1997, this tournament was being conducted. Between 1997 and 2005, this tournament was halted due to various problems. In the end of the competitions, China won the titles in all 5 disciplines.

Liang Weikeng is a Chinese badminton player. He was part of Chinese winning team at the 2023 Sudirman Cup, and at the same year won the men's doubles bronze medal at the BWF World Championships partnered with Wang Chang. Liang and Wang won their first title as a pair in the 2022 Japan Open.
Lei Lanxi is a Chinese badminton player. He won a gold medal at the 2016 BWF World Junior Championships in the mixed team event.
Shang Yichen is a Chinese badminton player from Shanghai. He is part of the Chinese team that won gold in the 2018 BWF World Junior Championships.
Chen Boyang is a Chinese badminton player. He won his first senior title at the Vietnam International Series in 2022 with his partner Liu Yi.
