Fongshan District is a district located in southern Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Fongshan is one of the administrative centers of Kaohsiung and is home to the Chinese Military Academy. There are three military units currently located in Fongshan. Both Chinese Military Academy and R.O.C. Army Infantry School were migrated from mainland China and re-established here in 1950. Chung Cheng Armed Forces Preparatory School was established in 1976. These three units used to be the main economic driving force, but their importance seems to diminish gradually as Fongshan has established itself as a conjunction between Pingtung City and Kaohsiung.
The Fubon Guardians are one of the four teams in the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan. The team is owned by Fubon Financial Holding Co. and play their home games at Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium in the New Taipei City.
The Rakuten Monkeys, formerly First Financial Holdings Agan, La New Bears and then the Lamigo Monkeys (Lamigo桃猿), are a professional baseball team in the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan. Owned and administered by the Kaohsiung-based shoe-producing La New Corporation and then the Japan-based electronic commerce and online retailing company Rakuten, the Bears qualified for the playoffs in 2006 for the first time in team history, and by finishing with the best record for the whole season, gained an automatic berth in the Taiwan Series.
The Enterprise Football League, formerly known as the National Football League or the National First Division Football League, was the highest-ranked football league in the Republic of China (Taiwan). It was governed by the Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA) and considered semi-professional. The competition was ended in 2009 following a change in regulations and a merger into the Intercity Football League.
Taiwan Power Company Football Club, often shortened to Taipower or, are a Taiwanese football club based in Fongshan District, Kaohsiung City which currently competes in the Taiwan Football Premier League. The club was founded in 1979 and is affiliated with Taiwan Power Company, the country's national utility company.

The 2017 Taiwan Football Premier League (TFPL) was the first season of the Taiwan Football Premier League since it replaced the Intercity Football League following the 2016 season. It was contested by 8 clubs. Taichung City Dragon, who participated in the final Intercity Football League season, were replaced for the inaugural TFPL by Tainan City. Taipower FC finished at the top of the table, but were defeated 1-1 on away goals in a playoff by Tatung FC, the second ranked team, for the title. With that result, Tatung FC earned an automatic berth in the 2018 AFC Cup group stage, while Taipower FC qualified for the playoff round. However, neither side chose to enter the tournament, so 3rd place playoff winners Hang Yuen were granted the AFC Cup berth.
