The 2008 European Archery Championships is the 20th edition of the European Archery Championships. The event was held in Vittel, France from 13 to 17 May, 2008. [1]

Archery had its debut at the 1900 Summer Olympics and has been contested in 18 Olympiads. 105 nations have competed in the Olympic archery events, with France appearing the most often at 15 times. Modern competitive archery involves shooting arrows at a target for accuracy and precision from a set distance or distances. This is the most popular form of competitive archery worldwide and is called target archery. A form particularly popular in Europe, North America, and South America is field archery, shot at targets generally set at various distances in a wooded setting. There are also several other lesser-known and historical forms, as well as archery novelty games.

The 1931 World Archery Championships was the inaugural edition of the event. It was held in Lwów, Poland in August 1931.

Mete Gazoz is a Turkish recurve archer. He won the gold medal in the men's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He also represented Turkey at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the 2023 World Archery Championships held in Berlin, Mete Gazoz emerged victorious, claiming the prestigious Individual title. In an intense final, he triumphed over the skilled Canadian archer Eric Peters, securing his place as the first Turkish archer to achieve the esteemed recurve gold medal in a World Championship.

There were 128 qualifying places available for archery at the 2020 Summer Olympics: 64 for women and 64 for men. The qualification standards were released by World Archery in March 2018. The 2020 Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tatiana Andreoli is an Italian recurve archer. At the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus, she won the gold medal in the women's individual recurve event.

Thomas Chirault is a French archer competing in men's recurve events. He won the silver medal in the men’s team event at the 2024 Summer Olympics. He also won a silver medal in the men's team event at the 2017 World Archery Championships held in Mexico City, Mexico.

Lisa Barbelin is a French archer, who won the recurve events at the 2021 European Archery Championships, and 2022 European Indoor Archery Championships. She has previously won multiple medals at the World Youth Archery Championships, and won bronze medals in events at the 2019 and 2022 Archery World Cups. In June 2021 she was the world's number one ranked competitor. Barbelin competed in the women's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
