The Brazil Independence Cup was an international football tournament held in Brazil, from 11 June to 9 July 1972, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Brazilian Declaration of Independence. It was called the Minicopa by the Brazilians and the final was between Brazil and Portugal, in the Maracanã Stadium. Brazil won 1–0, with Jairzinho scoring in the 89th minute.
The Sport Club Internacional won two important titles in the year 2006: Copa Libertadores and Fifa Club World Cup.

The 2010 season is the 101st season in Sport Club Internacional's existence, and their 40th in the Campeonato Brasileiro, having never been relegated from the top division. On 18 August 2010, Internacional won their second Copa Libertadores title after they defeated Guadalajara 3–2 in the second leg of the final to clinch a 5–3 aggregate win.
The 2014 Copa do Brasil Third Round was played from 23 July to 14 August 2014 and decided the 10 teams advancing to the knockout rounds. Different than the first two rounds, in this round the away team that wins the first match by 2 or more goals do not progress straight to the next round avoiding the second leg. The order of the matches was determined by a random draw.

The season began on 22 January and was scheduled to end on 26 April. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the season was paused until 22 July 2020 and ended on 30 August.

The competition was played from 20 January to 6 April 2024, with 12 clubs contesting the tournament.
