Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strýcová defeated Gabriela Dabrowski and Xu Yifan in the final, 6−2, 6−4 to win the ladies' doubles tennis title at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships. With the win, Strýcová attained the WTA no. 1 doubles ranking for the first time – Kristina Mladenovic, Elise Mertens and Ashleigh Barty were also in contention for the top ranking. Hsieh and Strýcová won the title without losing a set during the tournament.

Daria Kasatkina was the defending champion, but lost in the first round to Dayana Yastremska.

Peng Shuai was the defending champion, but chose not to participate.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ashleigh Barty in the final, 6–0, 3–6, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 Madrid Open. It was her 10th career WTA Tour singles title, and her first on clay.

Kontaveit's victory in the final was her 20th consecutive match win on indoor hard courts, dating back to the 2021 Ostrava Open; this is the longest such streak since Justine Henin won 22 matches on indoor courts between October 2007 and May 2010.
