The 2011 Pittsburgh Riverhounds season was the club's thirteenth year of existence, as well as their twelfth season of playing professional soccer. The Riverhounds played in the newly created USL Professional Division, which encompasses the third tier of American soccer.

Contents

The Riverhounds had played in the tentative USSF D2 Pro League in 2010, where they finished third overall in the second division table and made the semifinal round of the playoffs.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is an American professional soccer team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1999 and beginning play in 1999, the club plays in the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship, the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. Since 2013, the Riverhounds have played their home games at the 5,000-seat Highmark Stadium, a soccer-specific stadium located in Station Square. Their current head coach is Bob Lilley. Saint Lucian international David Flavius currently holds the club records for most appearances and goals which he set over his eight seasons with the Riverhounds between 1999 and 2006. In June 2017, the Riverhounds entered into a developmental partnership with the Ocean City Nor'easters of the Premier Development League, running through the 2018 season.

Richard Hunter Gilstrap, Jr. is an American retired soccer player. He played professionally in the Us and Africa. He most recently served as the goalkeeping coach for USL Championship club Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, who he played with for six years. He is the son of Rick Gilstrap, and Kiki Kirkland Gilstrap, and married to Kelly Gilstrap.

The 2010 Charleston Battery season was the club's seventeenth year of professional soccer. The team played in the USL Second Division (USL-2), the third tier of the American soccer pyramid, having voluntarily self-relegated from the USL First Division at the end of the 2009 season. Charleston played its home games at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. The team was coached by Michael Anhaeuser, in his sixth year as head coach, and was assisted by former Battery player Ian Fuller. The Battery finished the regular season in first place with a record of 11–4–5, 38 points, and hosted the USL-2 championship match at Blackbaud Stadium on August 28, 2010. Charleston finished the regular season without a home defeat. The Battery defeated the Richmond Kickers 2–1 to win their third league title. Lamar Neagle led the USL-2 in scoring with 13 league goals and was named the league MVP. Battery manager Mike Anhaeuser was named the league's manager of the year.
