The 2012 Premier League of Belize was the first season of the highest competitive football league in Belize, after it was founded in 2011. The season commenced on 11 February 2012.

League formation

In October 2011 teams were invited to apply for membership for the new Premier League of Belize. [1] In early January 2012 it was announced that there will be 12 teams competing in the inaugural season. There were 6 teams from the North Zone and 6 teams from the South Zone. [2] Each team played teams in their zone twice, with the top 2 teams from each zone advancing to the playoffs. [3]

The Belize Premier Football League (BPFL) (Caribbean Motors Cup) was the premier division of association football in Belize sanctioned by the Football Federation of Belize. The league disbanded in 2011 after the merger with the Super League of Belize to create a new top league in Belize, the Premier League of Belize.

The 2007–08 season of the Belize Premier Football League, otherwise known as the RFG Insurance Cup, began on September 30, 2007 and concluded in April 2008. FC Belize of Belize City entered as defending champions.

In 2011, the Belize Premier Football League withdrew from the Football Federation of Belize and all remaining games were abandoned. Thus no winner was crowned for the closing season.

The 2011 Super League of Belize is a football league in Belize, which is not affiliated with the Football Federation of Belize. The league was founded in 2006.

Placencia Assassins Football Club are a football team based in Placencia, Belize. They currently play in the Premier League of Belize. In 2011, they were crowned as Super League of Belize champions.

San Ignacio United. is a Belizean football club. It was founded and is owned by: Primitivo Medina, Johnny Medina and Mark Medina in August 2011 and competed in the Belize first division under the Cayo Football Association. The Club currently has 25 registered members consisting of players and the managing Staff, the players are a mixture of professional players from the Belize national selection and talented upcoming youths. The club is currently registered to play in the PLB(Premier League of Belize). The Premier League of Belize is the countries newest, biggest and only major league Football in Belize, and is played in a national level under The Belize Sport Council, Football Federation of Belize. and FIFA.

Santa Elena Sporting Complex is a football stadium based in Santa Elena, Cayo District, Belize. It is home to Verdes, who compete in the Premier League of Belize. Since 2018 Verdes have been using the stadium along with their usual home, Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.
