The 28th American Society of Cinematographers Awards were held on February 1, 2014, at the Hollywood & Highland Ray Dolby Ballroom, honoring the best cinematographers of film and television in 2013. [1] [2]

The film nominees were announced on January 8, 2014. A three-way tie boosted the number of film nominees to seven. Sean Bobbitt, Philippe Le Sourd, and Phedon Papamichael received their first nominations in the film category (though Papamichael has received prior nominations for his TV work).

This year also marked the inaugural Spotlight Award "to recognize outstanding cinematography in features and documentaries typically screened at film festivals, internationally or in limited theatrical release". [3] The nominees were announced on January 14, 2014.

With his third win in the film cinematography category, Emmanuel Lubezki joined Roger Deakins and Conrad L. Hall as the only cinematographers to have won the award more than twice.

Janusz Kamiński

Janusz Zygmunt Kamiński is a Polish cinematographer and director of film and television, who started his career in the United States. He rose to fame in the 1990s with his work on Schindler's List (1993). He has established a partnership with Steven Spielberg, working as a cinematographer on his movies since 1993. He won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan (1998). In recent years, Kamiński has also moved into the field of directing, first with the horror film Lost Souls, and later television series like The Event and The Divide.

Roger Deakins British cinematographer

Sir Roger Alexander Deakins is an English cinematographer, best known for his collaborations with directors like the Coen brothers, Sam Mendes and Denis Villeneuve. Deakins has been admitted to both the British Society of Cinematographers and to the American Society of Cinematographers. He is the recipient of five BAFTA Awards for Best Cinematography, and has had fifteen nominations and two wins for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. His best-known works include The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, A Beautiful Mind, Skyfall, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, and 1917, the last two of which earned him the Academy Awards.

The 14th American Society of Cinematographers Awards were held on February 20, 2000, honoring the best cinematographers of film and television in 1999.

Walter C. Pfister is an American cinematographer and director, who is best known for his work with acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan. Some of his collaborations with Nolan include Memento (2000), The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005–2012), and Inception (2010). For his work on Inception, Pfister won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography and received a BAFTA Award nomination.

Emmanuel Lubezki Morgenstern is a Mexican cinematographer. He sometimes goes by the nickname Chivo, which means "goat" in Spanish. Lubezki has worked with many acclaimed directors, including Mike Nichols, Tim Burton, Michael Mann, Joel and Ethan Coen, and frequent collaborators Terrence Malick, Alfonso Cuarón, and Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Phedon Papamichael, ASC is a Greek cinematographer and film director, known for his collaborations with directors James Mangold, Alexander Payne, and Wim Wenders. He was nominated for both the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Cinematography for Payne's 2013 film Nebraska. He has been a member of the American Society of Cinematographers since 2000.
