Of the fourteen teams that would participate in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup , only two were not automatic inclusions, so must win qualifying matches to enter the tournament, which was held in Wales and England. [1] Originally around twenty teams were to be involved in qualification for the tournament, [2] but this was eventually fixed at nineteen.
Seven teams from the Pacific qualified for the World Cup. All of these teams were granted automatic qualification.
Six teams from Europe qualified; five teams automatically, with the sixth going to Italy, the winner of the European qualifying group.
One team from the Atlantic region qualified for the World Cup.
The Atlantic qualifying group involved the USA, Jamaica and South Africa. The Atlantic qualifiers were held at Campbell's Field, New Jersey. [3] USA won the group and qualified for the World Cup. [4] [5]

The European qualifying group involved Russia, Italy, Serbia and Lebanon. [6] Both Italy and Lebanon remained unbeaten, recording two wins and a draw each. However, Italy topped the group as a result of points difference and therefore qualified for the World Cup. [4]

The 2008 Rugby League World Cup was the thirteenth staging of the Rugby League World Cup since its inauguration in 1954, and the first since the 2000 tournament. The tournament was held in Australia from 26 October, culminating in the final between Australia and New Zealand on 22 November.
The Italy national rugby league team represents Italy in rugby league football. With origins dating back to the 1950s and 1960s, the team has competed regularly in international competitions since 2008, when their current governing body, the Federazione Italiana Rugby League, was formed. They are currently ranked 16th in the IRL World Rankings.

The EPCR Challenge Cup is an annual rugby union competition organised by European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR). It is the second-tier competition for clubs based in European leagues behind the European Rugby Champions Cup. The qualification process for the 2021 Rugby World Cup began on 9 August 2019 with 12 teams qualifying to the tournament which was to be held in New Zealand. The 2021 Rugby World Cup was postponed by one year in March 2021 to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
