Western Australian soccer clubs competed in 2014 for the Football West State Cup , known for sponsorship reasons as the Cool Ridge Cup. Clubs entered from the newly formed National Premier Leagues WA, the two divisions of the State League, as well as a limited number of teams from various divisions of the 2014 Sunday League competition. This knockout competition was won by Bayswater City, their second title.
The competition also served as Qualifying Rounds for the 2014 FFA Cup. In addition to the A-League club Perth Glory, the two finalists qualified for the final rounds of the 2014 FFA Cup, entering at the Round of 32.
A total of 39 Western Australian teams took part in this stage of the competition and 3 teams were given a Bye to the First Round. 24 clubs from the All Flags State League Division 1 and State League Division 2 and 15 clubs from various divisions of the 2014 Sunday League were admitted into the competition at this stage. Soccer in Western Australia is governed by Football West. In 1896, the first governing body was formed. Football West runs the National Premier Leagues Western Australia, State Leagues, Sunday League and Metropolitan League. There are also numerous casual and school competitions, as well as futsal and indoor soccer in competitive and social games.
The National Premier Leagues Western Australia is a regional Australian semi-professional soccer league comprising teams from Western Australia. The league name is often abbreviated to NPL Western Australia or NPL WA. As a subdivision of the National Premier Leagues, the league is the highest level of the Western Australian league system. The competition is administered by Football West, the governing body of the sport in the state. In 2014, the league – formerly known as the Football West State League Premier Division – was rebranded into what exists today.
The 2014 FFA Cup was the inaugural season of the FFA Cup, the main national soccer knockout cup competition in Australia. 631 teams in total from around Australia entered the competition. Only 32 teams competed in the competition proper, including the 10 A-League teams and 22 Football Federation Australia (FFA) member federation teams determined through individual state preliminary rounds held in early 2014. The FFA Cup competition proper commenced on 29 July 2014 and concluded with the FFA Cup Final on 16 December 2014. which was brought forward from Australia Day in order to avoid a clash with the 2015 Asian Cup, which was hosted by Australia.
