Madeley is a suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of Perth's central business district. Its local government area is the City of Wanneroo. Previously part of Landsdale, much of the suburb was rural in character until the 1990s, with market gardening a common activity. The league is a subdivision of the second tier National Premier Leagues Women's structure, which sits below the national W-League, it is the highest tier of local women's competition in Western Australia. The league was founded in 2020 in Western Australia, several years behind equivalent leagues in other states.
The 2022 Football West season is the ninth season since the establishment of the National Premier Leagues in Western Australia.
