Western Australian soccer clubs will compete in 2016 for the Football West State Cup , known for sponsorship reasons as the Cool Ridge Cup. Clubs entered from the National Premier Leagues WA, the two divisions of the State League, a limited number of teams from various divisions of the 2016 Amateur League competition, and from regional teams from the South West, Goldfields, Great Southern and Midwest regions. This knockout competition was won by Floreat Athena, their sixth title.

The competition also served as the Western Australian Preliminary Rounds for the 2016 FFA Cup. The two finalists – Cockburn City and Floreat Athena – qualified for the final rounds, entering at the Round of 32.

First round

The round numbers conform to a common format throughout the 2016 FFA Cup preliminary rounds. A total of 18 teams took part in this stage of the competition, from lower divisions of the Amateur League, and from regional teams entering from the South West and Midwest regions. Matches in this round were played on 27–28 February. [2]

Second round

A total of 22 teams took part in this stage of the competition, from the Amateur League Premier Division (11 teams), from regional teams entering from the Goldfields and Great Southern regions, and the winners from the previous round. Matches in this round were completed by 13 March 2016. [3] [4]

Third round

A total of 34 teams took part in this stage of the competition. New teams that enter at this round were from Football West State League Division 1 (12 teams) and Football West State League Division 2 (11 teams). Matches in this round were played by 20 March 2016. [3]

Fourth round

A total of 24 teams took part in this stage of the competition. 7 of the 12 Clubs from the National Premier Leagues WA entered into the competition at this stage, with the exception of the top four teams from the 2015 Season who enter in the next round, and Perth Glory Youth who were not eligible. Matches in this round were played on 28 March 2016. [3]

Fifth round

A total of 16 teams took part in this stage of the competition, with the matches in this round played on 25 April 2016. [3] 4 of the 12 Clubs from the National Premier Leagues WA entered into the competition at this stage, being the top four teams from the 2015 Season.

Sixth round

A total of 8 teams took part in this stage of the competition, with the matches in this round played on 14 May 2016.

The 2016 Cool Ridge Cup Final was played on 23 July 2016, at the neutral venue of Dorrien Gardens. [5]

Floreat Athena Football Club is an association football (soccer) club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club competes in the National Premier Leagues Western Australia. The club's founders were of Greek heritage.

The National Premier Leagues Western Australia is a regional Australian semi-professional soccer league comprising teams from Western Australia. The league name is often abbreviated to NPL Western Australia or NPL WA. As a subdivision of the National Premier Leagues, the league is the highest level of the Western Australian league system. The competition is administered by Football West, the governing body of the sport in the state. Western Australian soccer clubs from the top three State-Based Divisions competed in 2009 for the WA State Challenge Cup, known that year as the Soccer Pools State Cup. This knockout competition was won by Floreat Athena, their fifth title.

The 2014 Football West season was the first season under the new competition format in Western Australia. The overall premier for the new structure qualified for the National Premier Leagues finals series, competing with the other state federation champions in a final knockout tournament to decide the National Premier Leagues Champion for 2014.

The 2015 FFA Cup preliminary rounds were a qualifying competition to decide 21 of the 32 teams which will take part in the 2015 FFA Cup Round of 32, along with the 10 A-League clubs and reigning National Premier Leagues champion. The preliminary rounds operated within a consistent national structure whereby club entry into the competition was staggered in each state/territory, with the winning clubs from Round 7 of the preliminary rounds in each member federation gaining direct entry into the Round of 32. All Australian clubs were eligible to enter the qualifying process through their respective FFA member federation, however only one team per club was permitted entry in the competition. Teams from the Northern Territory competed in this competition for the first time.

The 2015 Football West season was the second season under the new competition format in Western Australia. The overall premier for the new structure qualified for the National Premier Leagues finals series, competing with the other state federation champions in a final knockout tournament to decide the National Premier Leagues Champion for 2015.

The 2016 FFA Cup was the third season of the FFA Cup, the main national soccer knockout cup competition in Australia. 32 teams again took part in the competition proper, including the 10 A-League teams and 21 Football Federation Australia (FFA) member federation teams determined through individual state qualifying rounds, as well as the reigning National Premier Leagues Champion.

The 2017 Football West season was the fourth season under the new competition format in Western Australia. The NPL premier Bayswater City qualified for the National Premier Leagues finals series, and were eliminated at the quarter-final stage.

Clubs entered from the National Premier Leagues WA, the two divisions of the State League, a limited number of teams from various divisions of the 2018 Amateur League competition, and from regional teams from the South West, Goldfields and Great Southern regions.

The 2019 Football West Season was the sixth season since the National Premier Leagues was established in Western Australia.

Western Australian soccer clubs competed in 2019 for the Football West State Cup, known for sponsorship reasons as the Belt Up State Cup. Clubs entered from the National Premier Leagues WA, the two divisions of the State League, a limited number of teams from various divisions of the 2019 Amateur League, Metropolitan League and Masters League competitions, and from regional teams from the South West and Great Southern regions.

The 2020 FFA Cup preliminary rounds were the qualifying competition initially meant to decide 22 of the 32 teams to take part in the 2020 FFA Cup. Some preliminary matches were held in February and March, prior to the competition being suspended in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia.

The 2021 Football West season was the eighth season since the establishment of the National Premier Leagues in Western Australia.

Western Australian soccer clubs competed in 2021 for the Football West State Cup. Clubs entered from the National Premier Leagues WA, the two divisions of the State League, a limited number of teams from various divisions of the 2021 Amateur League, Metropolitan League and Masters League competitions, and from regional teams from the Goldfields, South West and Great Southern regions.
