Merdeka Cup Tournament

Western Australia competed in the Pestabola Merdeka four times between 1967 and 1970. [4] The state's best performance in the tournament was third in 1968. [5]

Marah Halim Cup Football Tournament

Western Australia competed in the Marah Halim Cup Football Tournament 3 times between 1975 and 1977, and were champions in 1975 and 1976. [6]

Merdeka Tournament or Pestabola Merdeka is a friendly football tournament held in Malaysia to commemorate the Independence Day and mainly played at Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. The competition bears the Malay word for independence. The Merdeka Tournament was once regarded as the 'Grand Old Lady of Asia' where top teams from football playing nations would love an invitation to the tournament. As of 2022, it has been held 40 times, and decreasingly in recent decades. Matches in Merdeka tournament considered International "A" matches by FIFA.

The National Premier Leagues Western Australia is a regional Australian semi-professional soccer league comprising teams from Western Australia. The league name is often abbreviated to NPL Western Australia or NPL WA. As a subdivision of the National Premier Leagues, the league is the highest level of the Western Australian league system. The competition is administered by Football West, the governing body of the sport in the state. In 2014, the league – formerly known as the Football West State League Premier Division – was rebranded into what exists today.

Tan Sri Datuk Abdul Ghani bin Minhat was a football player who represented the team Selangor FA and Negeri Sembilan FA in the 1950s until the late 1960s. Dato' Abdul Shukor bin SallehDSPN AMN was a key midfield player for the Malaysia national football team during the 1970s. He was often called the "Mr.Cool" and "Malaysia Ardiles" of the Malaysian national team for the way he steered the Malaysian midfield with calm and composed way. He won the Malaysian National Sportsman Award in 1977 for his contribution to the national team. Furthermore, he was the second and the last football player after Mokhtar Dahari to be given that award. He was inducted into the FIFA Century Club in May 2021.

The 2015 Football West season was the second season under the new competition format in Western Australia. The overall premier for the new structure qualified for the National Premier Leagues finals series, competing with the other state federation champions in a final knockout tournament to decide the National Premier Leagues Champion for 2015.

The 2016 Football West season was the third season under the new competition format in Western Australia. The overall premier for the new structure – Perth – qualified for the National Premier Leagues finals series, competing with the other Federation champions in a final knockout tournament to decide the National Premier Leagues Champion for 2016.

The 2018 Football West season was the fifth season under the current competition format in Western Australia. The NPL premiers Perth SC qualified for the National Premier Leagues finals series.

Datuk Chandran Mutveeran, popularly known as M. Chandran, was a Malaysian footballer.
