The 2016–17 Eugênio Lima season were in the island division of football (soccer) [1] The club finished tenth behind Benfica da Praia and ahead of Os Garridos outside the relegation zone.
Their first match was against Sporting where the club lost 0-2 on November 5 and was placed 11th. The club's first draw was a scoreless one with Benfica in the second round. [2] Eugénio Lima had a two match winning streak defeating the clubs that were mighty and one of the greatest in its early years, they are now the weakest, first to Vitòria where the club scored the season's first goal and was their season's only home win, then to Garridos 0-2 on December 2 which was their next away win and their positions rose to 5th. [3] Eugénio Lima could not defeat the greatest clubs today, the club suffered a seven-game losing streak, the first three had no goals scored, Travadores, Bairro and Celtic Praia, their positions dropped to 8th then 9th at the third match, the two with a total of three goals scored including Desportivo and Boavista, after the fifth loss, the club was tenth and the last two without and goals, Tchadense and Académica on February 5. Eugénio Lima had a two match draws, a scoreless draw with Sporting was made on February 11 and a goal draw with Benfica on February 18 which was their first of two away of the season. [4] The club's third win of the season came after their victory over the once mighty Vitória, [5] a single goal draw with Garridos was followed, [6] then another win was followed and the first since their appearance into the Premier Division defeated Praia's Big Three, Travadores 1-2 [7] and became placed eighth ahead of Celtic and the historically well known clubs of Os Garridos and Vitória and behind Travadores. After five matches of winning, the club yet again suffered another loss to ADESBA on March 19 and dropped two positions but with an eight point difference with Garridos and stays outside the 50/50 zone of remaining or relegation, their second straight loss was followed to Celfic Praia a week later, with Garridos scoring three in the 19th round, the club is third last to Vitória, they had their third straight loss to Desportivo but keeping their chances of remaining in the Premier Division in the following season, three weeks the club had an eight point difference with Os Garridos, another loss came after losing to Boavista 0-2 but kept their chances of remaining in the Division even with Garridos' recent huge win over Travadores and point difference with an 11th placed club was five, their away goals scored-conceded ratio became more conceded with 8 to 9. A second loss was followed and was Tchadense they lost to, as Garridos made another win, Eugénio Lima was inside the 50/50 zone of staying in the Premier Division or being relegated to the Second Division and had a two point difference with that club. Their final challenge was against Académica and lost 1-0 to that club, a goal draw between Celtic and Os Garridos preserved Eugénio Lima's stay at the Premier Division in the following season.
The club finished 10th with 16 points, a point more than São Domingos' Os Garridos and had four wins and four draws. Most of the club's goals were scored away and its goals conceded were at home. 8 out of 6 losses were at home.

Note: Flags indicate national team as defined under FIFA eligibility rules. Players may hold more than one non-FIFA nationality.
As the governing body of association football, FIFA is responsible for maintaining and implementing the rules that determine whether an association football player is eligible to represent a particular country in officially recognised international competitions and friendly matches. In the 20th century, FIFA allowed a player to represent any national team, as long as the player held citizenship of that country. In 2004, in reaction to the growing trend towards naturalisation of foreign players in some countries, FIFA implemented a significant new ruling that requires a player to demonstrate a "clear connection" to any country they wish to represent. FIFA has used its authority to overturn results of competitive international matches that feature ineligible players.
