The 2016–17 Assam State Premier League season was to be the second season of the Assam State Premier League since it was reformed in 2015. The season was scheduled to begin on 5 November 2016 and conclude on 8 January 2017. [1]

Assam State Premier League

Assam State Premier League (ASPL) is the top division football league in the Indian state of Assam organised by Assam Football Association. The inaugural edition of the league started in 2008 with Assam Rifles winning the first season.

Unlike the previous season, this season the number of teams would have been reduced from twelve to just eight teams. [2]

The 2011 Mauritian League was the sixty-seventh season of the Mauritian League since its establishment in 1935. The 2011 fixtures were released in February 2011. The season began on 26 February 2011, and concluded on 26 June 2011. ASPL 2000 won the 2011 Mauritian League, winning their 5th title, their first since 2005.

Bordoloi Trophy also known as the Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy is an Indian football tournament held in Guwahati organized by Guwahati Sports Association (GSA). The trophy is named after Assam's first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi. Teams from India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Thailand also participated in this Trophy. Abahani Limited of Bangladesh lifted 2010 trophy.

National Premier Leagues

The National Premier Leagues (NPL) is a national association football competition in Australia which acts as the second tier of the sport in the country below the A-League. The NPL consists of the highest level state league in each state-based federation within Australia. In total the NPL is contested by clubs from eight divisions; these are ACT, NSW, Northern NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. The NPL is overseen by Football Federation Australia (FFA), in partnership with participating state-based member federations. Since 2014 it has been sponsored by PlayStation 4 and thus officially known as the PS4 National Premier Leagues.

The Assam Football Association (AFA) is one of the 36 Indian State Football Associations that are affiliated to the All India Football Federation and its current president is Hemendra Nath Brahma, while secretary is Ankur Dutta.

The 2015 Assam State Premier League is the first season of the Assam State Premier League in its new format. Assam State Premier League alias ASPL, is the top football league for association football clubs in the Indian state of Assam. The league was re-launched in May 2015 and was kicked off on 29 May and will conclude with the final on 25 July.

Golaghat Rhino Football Club is a professional football club based in Golaghat, Assam, that competes in the Assam State Premier League, the top flight of the state football. The club was founded in 2014 in its current stadium, GDSA Stadium at General Field, Golaghat.

There are currently 36 state associations affiliated with the All India Football Federation. These state associations have state leagues affiliated to them.
