The 2016 Indian Super League finals was the third finals series in the 2016 ISL season, the 2016 edition of the men's professional football league in India. The finals began on 10 December and concluded with the final on 18 December. The top four teams from the 2016 ISL regular season qualified for the finals with the semi-finals taking place over two-legs before the final in Kochi. [1]

The season featured eight teams again, each playing 14 matches during the regular season before the finals. The regular season began on 1 October and ended on 4 December. The finals began on 10 December and concluded with the final on 18 December. The defending champions coming into the season were Chennaiyin.

The finals ended with Atlético de Kolkata defeating the Kerala Blasters in a penalty shootout, 4–3, in the final. [2] The match was a rematch of the 2014 ISL final which Atlético de Kolkata won as well 1–0. [2]
Kerala Blasters Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Kochi, Kerala. Kerala Blasters is one of the ten teams to have been part of the Indian Super League (ISL) since its inception. They play in the league under license from All India Football Federation (AIFF). The club was established on 24 May 2014 and began their first professional season a few months later in October 2014.

Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, locally known as Kaloor Stadium is a multi-purpose international stadium situated in Kochi, Kerala. It is used mostly for cricket and football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 39,000 The building of a world-class international sports stadium in Kerala was sanctioned by the government of the late Chief minister of Kerala, K. Karunakaran. The stadium was completed ahead of schedule in 1996 by the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) led by V. Joseph Thomas IPS. The stadium is widely touted to be one of the noisiest football stadiums in the world due to its distinctive architecture.
The I-League 2008–2009 season began on 26 September 2008 and finished on 16 April 2009 with a break in December for the Federation Cup and Durand Cup. Most games this season were played on Saturday's and Sunday's to attract larger crowds. The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup was the 17th FIFA U-17 World Cup, a biennial international football tournament contested by men's under-17 national teams. Organized by FIFA, the tournament took place in India between 6 and 28 October 2017, after the country was awarded the hosting rights on 5 December 2013. The tournament marked the first time India have hosted a FIFA tournament and the first Asian country to host U-17 World Cup since 2013. The attendance for this World Cup was a record 1,347,133 surpassing China's record in 1985 with 1,230,976.

The 2017–18 Youth League U18 was the eighth season of the Indian Youth League U18 and the third season of the competition as an under-18 one. AIFF announced that the zonal rounds for the league that started from 20 November 2017 in Chennai, Maharashtra, Kolkata and Delhi. AIFF Elite Academy were three-time defending champions, but did not participate in the tournament. Shillong Lajong won their first title by defeating Kerala Blasters 2–0 in the final on 26 May 2018.

The regular season began on 29 September 2018 and is scheduled to conclude in March 2019. The league will take a mid-season break for around one month from 17 December 2018 to early January 2019 due to India's participation in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
