The 2016 Bangladesh Football Premier League (also known as JB Bangladesh Premier League for sponsorship reasons) [1] was the ninth season of the Bangladesh Premier League since establishment of the league in 2007. A total of 12 teams competed in the league. The league began on 24 July 2016. [2]
Saif Global Sports are the right holder of BPL's ninth edition and they will accommodate the advertising, branding, TV transmission, radio, marketing rights of the Bangladesh Premier League 2016.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club are the defending champions, having won their Bangladesh Premier League title the previous season.
BFF has agreed to provide a purse of Taka thirty lacs as appearance money to each of the 12 participant teams for their accommodation and transportation outside the capital. [2]
A total of 24 matches out of 132 matches were to be played in Dhaka and rest of the matches played outside Dhaka. [3]

The 2009–10 Citycell Bangladesh League started on 25 October 2009. 13 teams will compete with each other on a home and away basis.
The 2010-11 Grameenphone Bangladesh League started on the 27 December 2010. 12 teams competed with each other on a home and away basis. 2010-11 was the fourth Bangladeshi league season in the professional and the second since being was renamed from B League to Bangladesh League in order to combat suggestions that it is a second-tier league. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club won the league and won the right to represent Bangladesh in the 2012 AFC President's Cup.

The 2021–22 BFF U-18 Football League is the inaugural edition of BFF U-18 Football League, replacing the BFF U-18 Football Tournament. Youth teams of 10 BPL clubs competing in the league. Uttar Baridhara withdrew themselves two days before kicking off the league citing financial crisis, while Saif SC didn't participate as they closed their football department.

The league was contested by 11 teams including AFC Uttara and Fortis FC, who joined as the promoted clubs from the 2021–22 Championship League.
