The 2016 Tajik League is the 25th season of Tajik League, the Tajikistan Football Federation's top division of association football. FC Istiklol are the defending champions, having won the previous season.

Prior to the start of the 2016 season, Khosilot Farkhor were promoted, whilst on 25 March 2016, the Tajikistan Football Federation announced that Daleron-Uroteppa had withdrawn from the league due to financial problems. [1]

Football Club Istiklol (Tajik: Дастаи Футболи Истиқлол), (Persian: باشگاه فوتبال استقلال‎), is a Tajik professional football club based in Dushanbe. They currently compete in the Ligai Olii Tojikiston, the top flight of Tajik football. The club was founded to commemorate the Independence of Tajikistan. Istiklol in Tajik means the independence in English.

The FC Istiklol 2014 season was Istiklol's sixth Tajik League season. They won the League for the third time, whilst also winning the Supercup and defending their Tajik Cup title. Mubin Ergashev was appointed the club's new manager 13 January 2014, guiding the team to an undefeated season.

The FC Istiklol 2015 season is Istiklol's seventh Tajik League season. They are the current defending Champions in the Tajik League, Tajik Cup and Tajik Supercup having completed a Domestic Treble during the 2014 season. They will also participate in the AFC Cup for the first time, entering at the group stage.

The 2017 Tajik Supercup was the 8th Tajik Supercup, an annual Tajik football match played between the winners of the previous season's Tajik League and Tajik Cup. The match was contested by 2016 Tajik League and 2016 Tajik Cup champions, Istiklol, and the 2016 Tajik Cup Runners-up, Khosilot Farkhor. It was held at Central Stadium in Hisor a day before the first game of the 2017 Tajik League. Khosilot Farkhor won the match 2–1 with goals in the first half from Khairullo Azizov and Agbley Jones, with Istiklol striker Dmitry Barkov scoring a late consolation goal.

The 2018 Tajik League is the 27th season of Tajik League, Tajikistan's top division of association football. The season began on 10 March 2018.

The 2019 Ligai Olii Tojikiston or 2019 Tajikistan Higher League was the 28th season of Ligai Olii Tojikiston, Tajikistan's top division of association football. The season will begin on 6 April 2019. and finished on 4 November 2019.

The FC Istiklol 2020 season is Istiklol's twelfth Tajik League season, of which they are defending Tajik League and Cup Champions, whilst they will also participate in the Tajik Supercup and AFC Champions League.

The 2020 Tajikistan Cup is the 29th edition of the Tajikistan Cup, the knockout football tournament of Tajikistan, with the winner of the cup qualifying for the 2021 AFC Cup.
