The 2016 National Football Challenge Cup or 2016 Pakistan Football Federation Cup was the 26th season of domestic cup tournament in Pakistani football. 24 teams took part in this competition from 28 January 2016 to 22 February 2016, which took place in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. [1]

Contents

Khan Research Laboratories were the defending champions. They defended their title after defeating National Bank 1–0 in the final.

Renaming

The National Challenge Cup was renamed to Pakistan Football Federation Cup or PFF Cup for unknown reasons. After eight months of no football action, the tournament was announced for 28 January 2016 to 23 February 2016.

Format

Qualifying round

For qualification, 15 teams from PFF League (B Division) and 1 team from the Pakistan Premier League played in a group stage, with winners and runners-up from each group qualifying for the final round.

Final round

Eight teams from the qualifying round and eight teams from the Pakistan Premier League played in a group stage, with the group winners and runners-up qualifying for the knock-out stages.

The Geo Super Football League or SFL was the first professional inter-city football league of Pakistan, with support of the Pakistan Football Federation. It was established in 2007 and telecasted live via GEO Super. The SFL ran separate to the Pakistan Premier League. The league did not continue because the organisers and sponsors reportedly did not want to work with the Pakistan Football Federation again.

The 2007–08 season is the 53rd season of Pakistan domestic football and the 4th season of the Pakistan Premier League and was held from November 1, 2007, to February 6, 2008, under the auspices of Pakistan Football Federation.

The 2016 Pakistan Super League was the debut season of the Pakistan Super League which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board. The 2014 National Women Football Championship was the 10th season of the National Women Football Championship, the top-tier of women's football in Pakistan. The tournament started on 12 August and concluded on 29 August 2014, with three group stages played in Lahore and one group stage played in Karachi.

The 2023–2024 PFF National Challenge Cup was the 30th edition of domestic cup competition in Pakistan. 27 departmental teams participated in the competition, from 24 January 2023 until 12 May 2024. The cup featured 27 departmental teams across the country vying for the title, which was defended by 2020 champions WAPDA.
