The 2000 National Football League was the inaugural season of the country's first football league held on a national scale. The league was also known as the Nitol-Tata National Football League due to sponsorship reasons.

The league included the top three finishing clubs from the 1999 season of the country's top-tier football league at the time, the Dhaka Premier Division League (Dhaka League). The clubs were the Dhaka League champions Mohammedan SC, runners-up Muktijoddha Sangsad KC and third-place Abahani Limited Dhaka. Additionally, the district league champions of Chittagong (Chittagong Abahani), Khulna (Khulna Abahani KC), and Rajshahi (Rajshahi Abahani KC) also entered the league. Chaturanga Jubo Sangha from Sylhet won a play-off against the champions of Barisal to secure their place in the league. Netrokona-based Mohammedan SC was also granted permission to enter the league. On 4 January 2000, the three Dhaka clubs: Mohammedan SC, Abahani Limited Dhaka, and Muktijoddha Sangsad KC submitted their squad lists. [2] On 7 January, Netrokona Mohammedan SC, Chittagong Abahani, Rajshahi Abahani KC, Khulna Abahani KC and Sylhet Chaturanga Jubo Sangha announced their squads. [3]

The first round games were played in Chittagong, Khulna and Rajshahi. In the final round, all games were held in Dhaka.

The 2019–20 Federation Cup, also known as TVS Federation Cup 2019, was 31st edition of the tournament, the main domestic annual club football competition in Bangladesh organized by Bangladesh Football Federation. The 13 participants will compete for the tournament. The winner of the tournament will earn the slot of playing preliminary round of 2021 AFC Cup.

The 2020–21 season was the Chittagong Abahani's 41st season since its establishment in 1980 and their 11th season in the Bangladesh Premier League. The league was contested by 11 teams including AFC Uttara and Fortis FC, who joined as the promoted clubs from the 2021–22 Championship League. The season started on 9 December 2022 and concluded on 22 July 2023.
