The 2016–17 Hazfi Cup was the 30th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. Zob Ahan Isfahan, the defending champions, were eliminated by Tractor Sazi in the semi-final in extra time. The competition started on 12 September 2016, and the final was played on 11 May 2017. Naft Tehran defeated Tractor Sazi in the final, earning their first title.
A total of 94 teams participated in the 2016–17 Hazfi Cup. The teams were divided into three main groups, and included 16 teams of the Persian Gulf Pro League, 18 teams of Azadegan League, with 60 teams of Iran 2nd Division League and Provincial Leagues.
In the first stage of "2016–17 Hazfi Cup", 60 teams from Iran 2nd Division League and Provincial Leagues are presented. Following the competition of the first stage, 30 teams qualified for the second stage. [1]

Iranian football's 2nd division is the third-highest football division overall in the Iranian football league system. Before 2001, the 2nd division league was the second-highest division in the national football league system. However, it was changed to third-highest division when Iran's football structure officially became professional.
The 2005–06 Hazfi Cup was the 19th staging of Iran's football knockout competition organised annually by the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran.
The 2011–12 season was the Tractor Sazi Football Club's 4th season in the Iran Pro League, their 3rd consecutive season in the top division of Iranian football, and their 41st year in existence as a football club. They also competed in the Hazfi Cup, where they were eliminated in the Round of 32 by Shahrdari Yasuj.
The 2011–12 season was Zob Ahan Football Club's 11th season in the Iran Pro League, and their 16th consecutive season in the top division of Iranian football. They also competed in the Hazfi Cup, and AFC Champions League, and had their 42nd year in existence as a football club.
The 2011–12 season will be Rah Ahan Football Club's 7th season in the Iran Pro League, and their 65th consecutive season in the top division of Iranian football. They will also be competing in the Hazfi Cup and 75th year in existence as a football club.
The 2012–13 Azadegan League was the 22nd season of the Azadegan League and 12th as the second highest division since its establishment in 1991. The season featured 19 teams from the 2011–12 Azadegan League, three new teams relegated from the 2011–12 Persian Gulf Cup and four new teams promoted from the 2011–12 2nd Division. Alvand Hamedan replaced PAS Novin Hamedan, Bargh Shiraz replaced Steel Azin and Sang Ahan replaced Tarbiat Yazd. The league started on 13 September 2012 and ended on 16 April 2013. Gostaresh Foulad and Esteghlal Khuzestan won the Azadegan League title for the first time in their history. Gostaresh Foulad and Esteghlal Khuzestan were promoted to the Persian Gulf Cup.

The competition started on 13 December 2012 and ended on 5 May 2013. Sepahan won the title after defeating Persepolis in final.
The 2013–14 Hazfi Cup was the 27th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. Sepahan was the defending champion, but was eliminated by Sanat Naft in the Round of 32. The competition started on 4 September 2013 and ended on 14 February 2014. Tractor won the title, defeating Mes Kerman in the final.
The 2014–15 season are the Esteghlal Football Club's 14th season in the Persian Gulf Pro League, and their 21st consecutive season in the top division of Iranian football. They are also competing in the Hazfi Cup and 70th year in existence as a football club.
The 2014–15 Hazfi Cup was the 28th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. Tractor Sazi was the defending champion but was eliminated by Padideh in the quarter-finals. The competition started on 1 September 2014 and ended on 1 June 2015. Zob Ahan won their third title, defeating Naft Tehran in the final.

The season featured 25 teams from the 2nd Division 2015–16, five new teams relegated from the 2015–16 Azadegan League: Aluminium Hormozgan, Damash, Giti Pasand, Shahrdari Ardabil, PAS Hamedan and six new teams promoted from the 3rd Division 2015–16: Shahrdari Fuman, Shahrdari Hamedan, Shahrdari Arak, Qashqai Shiraz, Shahin Mahshahr, Shahid Karimi Jooybar.
The 2017–18 Azadegan League was the 27th season of the Azadegan League and 17th as the second highest division since its establishment in 1991. The league started on 7 August 2017 and ended on 29 April 2018. Naft Masjed Soleyman won the Azadegan League title for the first time in their history. Naft Masjed Soleyman and Nassaji Mazandaran promoted to the Persian Gulf Pro League. Farshid Padash and Shahin Majidi were the top scorers, with 17 goals each.
The 2017–18 Hazfi Shield Cup was the 31st season of the Iranian football knockout competition. The competition begin in August 2017 and the final was played on May 3, 2018. Mehdi Sharifi, then center forward for Persian side Tractor SC was the Cup's top scorer with five goals. The Cup was won by Esteghla FC in a 1–0 victory over Khooneh Be Khooneh. The final's only goal was scored by Mame Thiam, an Esteghlal forward in the 35' minute of the game. This was Esteghlal seventh Hazfi Cup title.
The 2016–17 season is Tractor's 9th season in the Persian Gulf Pro League. Tractor is captained by Mehdi Kiani.
The 2018–19 Hazfi Cup was the 32nd season of the Iranian football knockout competition.
The 2019–20 Hazfi Cup was the 33rd season of the Iranian football knockout competition. The competition began in August 2019 and the final was played on September 3, 2020, which Tractor won for their 2nd title.
The 2021 Hazfi Cup was the 34th season of the Iranian football knockout competition.
The 2021–22 Hazfi Cup was the 35th season of the Iranian football knockout competition. Nassaji Mazandaran won the competition after defeating Aluminium Arak in the final.
