The Assam State Premier League (ASPL) is the state-level football league in the Indian state of Assam. It is the highest state-level football league in Assam organised by the Assam Football Association, currently contested by 8 clubs. [2]

History

Assam State Premier League inaugural edition of the league started in 2008 with Assam Rifles winning its first title. After some years in 2015 the league was discontinued. But after 7 years in 2023, it was revived by Assam Football Association. [2]

The winner of Assam State Premier League gets promoted to I-League 3, and the last position team gets relegated to the Assam Club Championship. From 2015 season the league has been revamped with the new format. The teams have been divided into two zones - Upper Assam and Lower Assam. [3] The league began with the group stage on home and away basis. The top four teams from each zone qualified for the quarterfinals. [4] In 2023, Assam Football Association revived the league after a gap of 7 years. [2]

The tournament was established in 1952 by Gauhati Town Club. It is named after Assam's first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi. The prestigious tournament comprises some top clubs from the northeast and rest of India. Clubs from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Iran and Uzbekistan have also participated in this major championship. Abahani Limited of Bangladesh lifted the 2010 edition trophy.

The 2015 Assam State Premier League was the first season of the Assam State Premier League in its new format, and 8th as highest state-level league. The league was re-launched in May 2015 and was kicked off on 29 May, concluding with the final on 25 July.

Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) is an autonomous district council in the state of Assam, India for development and protection of tribals living in area namely Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong district. The council is constituted under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India and administratively functions under the Government of Assam. It was formed with the name Karbi Anglong District Council on 17 November 1951. Later changed to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council on 23 June 1952, which is now celebrated as its foundation day. After Signing of M.O.U. between Government of India, Government of Assam and United People's Democratic Solidarity, it was renamed to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Territorial Council. KASA Stadium or Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium at Diphu, Karbi Anglong, Assam, India. It is used mainly for football and athletic games. The stadium has capacity of 9000 spectators. The inaugural friendly football match was held here between the reigning champions of Assam State Premier League and home team, Karbi Anglong Morning Star Football Club and the Asaduzzaman FC, Bangladesh.

United Chirang Duar Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Chirang, Bodoland, Assam. It is the first professional club from Bodoland to participate in I-League 2 qualifiers. The club was qualified to play in the tournament after beating Elevenstar Club in the qualifying round organised by Assam Football Association. It currently competes in I-League 3 and the Assam State Premier League.
