United Chirang Duar Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Chirang, Bodoland, Assam. [2] It is the first professional club from Bodoland to participate in I-League 2 qualifiers. [3] [4] The club was qualified to play in the tournament after beating Elevenstar Club in the qualifying round organised by Assam Football Association. [5] It currently competes in I-League 3 and the Assam State Premier League. [6]

History

United Chirang Duar FC is established in 2021 in Runikhata village of Chirang in Bodoland Territorial Region in Indian state of Assam.

United Chirang Duar has won many trophies in and out of Assam since its formation. It is the first club from Bodoland region to participate in I-League 2 qualifiers after they defeated Elevenstar Club in the qualifying round organized by Assam Football Association. [7] The club later went on to participate in I-League 3, in its inaugural edition. [8] [9] [10]

The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is an autonomous division in Assam, India, and a proposed state in Northeast India. It is made up of five districts on the north bank of the Brahmaputra river below the foothills of Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. It is administered by an elected body known as the Bodoland Territorial Council which came into existence under the terms of a peace agreement signed in February 2003 and its autonomy was further extended by an agreement signed in January 2020. The Independence Day Cup is an Indian football tournament held in Nagaon, Assam, organised by Nowgong Sports Association annually. Teams from across the country compete in this oldest football tournament of Assam which was established in 1947, days after the Indian independence. Initially the tournament was hosted by Nagaon Marwari Yubak Sangha.

2022–23 Hero I-League 2nd Division was the 15th season of the I-League 2nd Division since its establishment in 2008. This was the first season of I-League 2nd Division since rebranding as the third tier of Indian football league system. The league's group stage has been played from March to May 2023, parallel to the remaining part of both I-League and Indian Super League seasons. The top two teams on the league table, Delhi FC and Shillong Lajong, secured a place in the 2023–24 I-League season.

The Assam Tea Planters' Association Shield, commonly known as the ATPA Shield Football Tournament or ATPA Shield, is an annual Indian association football tournament held in Jorhat, Assam and organised by Jorhat District Sports Association (JDSA). It is one of the reputed and third oldest football tournament of Assam after Independence Day Cup and Bordoloi Trophy. Since its inception in 1955, the tournament is very popular involving some leading clubs from northeast India and rest of the country. Kolkata giants East Bengal Club, Mohammedan SC and Mohun Bagan AC, as well as Dempo SC of Goa have also competed in ATPA Shield. The coveted shield was donated and hosted by Assam Tea Planters' Association (ATPA). From 1968, the tournament has been conducted by Jorhat District Sports Association.

The I-League 3 is a men's professional football league in India. It forms the fourth tier of the Indian football league system, below the I-League 2 and above the State leagues.

2023–24 I-League 3 was the 1st season of the I-League 3 since its establishment in 2023. It was also the 1st season as the national fourth tier of the Indian football league system. The top three teams on the league table qualified for 2023–24 I-League 2.
