The Assam Tea Planters' Association Shield, commonly known as the ATPA Shield Football Tournament or ATPA Shield, [1] is an annual Indian association football tournament held in Jorhat, Assam and organised by Jorhat District Sports Association (JDSA). It is one of the reputed and third oldest football tournament of Assam after Independence Day Cup and Bordoloi Trophy. Since its inception in 1955, the tournament is very popular involving some leading clubs from northeast India and rest of the country. Kolkata giants East Bengal Club, Mohammedan SC and Mohun Bagan AC, as well as Dempo SC of Goa have also competed in ATPA Shield. [2] The coveted shield was donated and hosted by Assam Tea Planters' Association (ATPA). From 1968, the tournament has been conducted by Jorhat District Sports Association. [3]

Subimal "Chuni" Goswami was an Indian professional footballer and first-class cricketer. As footballer, he played as a striker or winger, captained both the Mohun Bagan club and the India national team. He also served as the Sheriff of Kolkata. Goswami scored nine goals in 30 international appearances. He was an Olympian, represented India national team at the 1960 Summer Olympics. He also led the team to achieve the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games, and earn the runners-up position at the 1964 AFC Asian Cup.

Pradip Kumar BanerjeeFIFAOM was an Indian professional footballer who played as a striker for the India national football team. He also captained the national team and later on became the coach of the national team. He represented India in 52 official matches and scored 16 official goals for the country. He was one of the first recipients of Arjuna Award, when the awards were instituted in 1961. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 1990 and was named Indian Footballer of the 20th century by IFFHS. In 2004, he was awarded the FIFA Order of Merit, the highest honour awarded by FIFA.

Oil India Football Club, also known as Oil India Limited FC, or simply Oil India FC, is an Indian institutional football club based in Duliajan, Assam. The club was founded by Oil India in 1964. It also participated in I-League 2nd Division, then second tier football tournament of Indian football league system, for three seasons.

Amal Dutta was a former Indian footballer, coach and football manager. Born in Calcutta, then Bengal Presidency, he is considered as the first professional football coach in the country. A finest thinker of the sport, Dutta had a rivalry with Pradip Kumar Banerjee during his coaching days in Kolkata club football.

The Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy, commonly known as Bordoloi Trophy, is a premier annual Indian football tournament held in Guwahati and organized by Guwahati Sports Association (GSA). The tournament was established in 1952 by Gauhati Town Club. It is named after Assam's first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi. The prestigious tournament comprises some top clubs from the northeast and rest of India. Clubs from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Iran and Uzbekistan have also participated in this major championship. Abahani Limited of Bangladesh lifted the 2010 edition trophy.

Subrata Bhattacharya is an Indian football manager and former professional footballer. He primarily played as a defender for India national team and spent seventeen years playing for Mohun Bagan. He was the stopper back for Mohun Bagan during 1975 IFA Shield final when East Bengal beat Mohun Bagan 5–0, the biggest ever margin in the Kolkata Derby. He won Indian National Football League for two times as a coach of Mohun Bagan. He was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 1989.

The Assam State Premier League (ASPL) is the state-level football league in the Indian state of Assam. It is the highest state-level football league in Assam organised by the Assam Football Association, currently contested by 8 clubs.

Prasun Banerjee is an Indian former professional footballer and politician who is serving as an MP in the Lok Sabha from Howrah. He is an Arjuna Award winner (1979). Younger brother of the Pradip Kumar Banerjee, Prasun had also captained the India national football team in international tournaments.

Jorhat Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Jorhat, Assam. This is the oldest stadium of Assam with the capacity of 12,000 spectators. It has earthen galleries which were designed by late Abani Mohan Choudhury. The stadium is venue for cricket and football tournaments. The first Ranji Trophy match in Assam was held at Jorhat Stadium in 1949/50. The stadium is owned and run by Jorhat District Sports Association.

Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club, commonly referred as A.S.E.B Sports Club, or simply ASEB SC, is an Indian multi sports club based in Guwahati, Assam. The club currently competes in Guwahati Premier Football League, Bordoloi Trophy, ATPA Shield, Independence Day Cup and other club football tournaments of Assam. ASEB SC previously competed in National Football League II, then second tier of Indian football league system and state top division Assam State Premier League.

Assam Rifles Football Team is a football section which represents the Assam Rifles, one of the paramilitary forces of India. The team often participates in the Durand Cup, Bordoloi Trophy, Independence Day Cup and various other regional football tournaments.

The Independence Day Cup is an Indian football tournament held in Nagaon, Assam, organised by Nowgong Sports Association annually. Teams from across the country compete in this oldest football tournament of Assam which was established in 1947, days after the Indian independence. Initially the tournament was hosted by Nagaon Marwari Yubak Sangha.

Kidderpore Sporting Club is an Indian professional multi-sports club based in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal. Its association football team competes in the Calcutta Football League Premier Division A, alongside taking part in IFA Shield. They also have a futsal section.

Assam Police Blues is an Indian institutional football club based in Guwahati, Assam. The club competes in the Guwahati Premier Football League, Bordoloi Trophy, ATPA Shield and other major state club tournaments. It previously participated in the Assam State Premier League and won the title in 2013–14 season.
