Oil India Football Club, also known as Oil India Limited FC, or simply Oil India FC, is an Indian institutional football club based in Duliajan, Assam. [1] The club was founded by Oil India in 1964. [1] It also participated in I-League 2nd Division, then second tier football tournament of Indian football league system, for three seasons. [2] [3]

Oil India FC was nominated by the Assam Football Association for 2021 I-League Qualifiers, but didn't make it to the final list approved by the AIFF. [4] The club is a regular participant in the big tournaments of the state include Guwahati Premier Football League, Bordoloi Trophy, Independence Day Cup, ATPA Shield, and Bodousa Cup. It previously competed in the top division Assam State Premier League. [5]

History

Oil India FC is sponsored by the public sector giant Oil India Ltd, as well as Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The club was set up in 1964 at Duliajan in upper Assam, although some administrative facilities are located in Dibrugarh. They took part in the first three editions of I-League 2nd Division. In 2010 edition, Oil India FC had progressed to final round but failed to qualify for the top tier. [6] The club is considered to be one of the top teams from the North East India.

Stadium

Oil India FC plays its home matches at Nehru Maidan which is located in Duliajan. It has the capacity of 10,000 spectators and owned by Oil India Ltd itself. [7]

The tournament was established in 1952 by Gauhati Town Club. It is named after Assam's first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi. The prestigious tournament comprises some top clubs from the northeast and rest of India. Clubs from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Iran and Uzbekistan have also participated in this major championship. Abahani Limited of Bangladesh lifted the 2010 edition trophy.

The Assam Tea Planters' Association Shield, commonly known as the ATPA Shield Football Tournament or ATPA Shield, is an annual Indian association football tournament held in Jorhat, Assam and organised by Jorhat District Sports Association (JDSA). It is one of the reputed and third oldest football tournament of Assam after Independence Day Cup and Bordoloi Trophy. Since its inception in 1955, the tournament is very popular involving some leading clubs from northeast India and rest of the country. Kolkata giants East Bengal Club, Mohammedan SC and Mohun Bagan AC, as well as Dempo SC of Goa have also competed in ATPA Shield. The coveted shield was donated and hosted by Assam Tea Planters' Association (ATPA). From 1968, the tournament has been conducted by Jorhat District Sports Association.

Assam Police Blues is an Indian institutional football club based in Guwahati, Assam. The club competes in the Guwahati Premier Football League, Bordoloi Trophy, ATPA Shield and other major state club tournaments. It previously participated in the Assam State Premier League and won the title in 2013–14 season.

United Chirang Duar Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Chirang, Bodoland, Assam. It is the first professional club from Bodoland to participate in I-League 2 qualifiers. It currently competes in I-League 3 and the Assam State Premier League.
