Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club, commonly referred as A.S.E.B Sports Club, or simply ASEB SC, is an Indian multi sports club based in Guwahati, Assam. The club currently competes in Guwahati Premier Football League, Bordoloi Trophy, ATPA Shield, Independence Day Cup and other club football tournaments of Assam. ASEB SC previously competed in National Football League II (NFL 2nd Division), then second tier of Indian football league system and state top division Assam State Premier League. [1]

History

ASEB Sports Club was founded in 1975 to promote and encourage sports activities among its members. [2] It has won most number of titles in the GSA Super Division Football League. [3] The club also participated in the National Football League II (NFL 2nd Division), then second tier of Indian football league system in the 2001–02, 2002–03, 2003–04, 2004-05 seasons. [4] [5] The three successor companies of erstwhile Assam State Electricity Board - Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited (AEGCL) and Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL) are the owners of the club.

Home ground

ASEB SC plays all its home matches at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, which has a capacity of 15,000 spectators. [6]

The tournament was established in 1952 by Gauhati Town Club. It is named after Assam's first chief minister Gopinath Bordoloi. The prestigious tournament comprises some top clubs from the northeast and rest of India. Clubs from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Iran and Uzbekistan have also participated in this major championship. Abahani Limited of Bangladesh lifted the 2010 edition trophy.

The Assam Tea Planters' Association Shield, commonly known as the ATPA Shield Football Tournament or ATPA Shield, is an annual Indian association football tournament held in Jorhat, Assam and organised by Jorhat District Sports Association (JDSA). It is one of the reputed and third oldest football tournament of Assam after Independence Day Cup and Bordoloi Trophy. Since its inception in 1955, the tournament is very popular involving some leading clubs from northeast India and rest of the country. Kolkata giants East Bengal Club, Mohammedan SC and Mohun Bagan AC, as well as Dempo SC of Goa have also competed in ATPA Shield. The coveted shield was donated and hosted by Assam Tea Planters' Association (ATPA). From 1968, the tournament has been conducted by Jorhat District Sports Association.

Gilbertson Sangma is a former Indian footballer. He played as a striker. Sangma was regarded as "Man with golden boot" by the leading daily Hindustan Times because of his skill, agility and stamina.

Assam Police Blues is an Indian institutional football club based in Guwahati, Assam. The club competes in the Guwahati Premier Football League, Bordoloi Trophy, ATPA Shield and other major state club tournaments. It previously participated in the Assam State Premier League and won the title in 2013–14 season.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">United Chirang Duar FC</span> Indian association football club

United Chirang Duar Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Chirang, Bodoland, Assam. It is the first professional club from Bodoland to participate in I-League 2 qualifiers. The club was qualified to play in the tournament after beating Elevenstar Club in the qualifying round organised by Assam Football Association. It currently competes in I-League 3 and the Assam State Premier League.
