The 2017–18 Benfica da Praia season were in the island division of football (soccer). [1] This is Benfica's second season at the Premier Division. It is also the second that both affiliates of Benfica appear at the division, the other being Travadores.
Benfica started off with a 1-3 loss to almighty Sporting Praia and as of the 7th round, they yet to win a match and has 3 draws and scored two goals. They were 11th with 3 points, shared with Eugénio Lima, Benfica conceded 12 goals, three less than the last placed club and slimmed their chance of remaining in the Premier Division. Until December 22, the club was last without a win. the made their only as they defeated the newcomer Tira Chapéu 1-2 on December 22 and kept their chance of remaining in the division as they became 10th. Benfica made a goal draw with Praia's top five and their co-affiliate Travadores on January 7. Benfica has six goals scored and on the opposites, 16 goals conceded alongside Ribeira Grande with their recent with an 0-1 win over Eugénio Lima on January 14 and had 10 points as of the 11th round, shared with Tchadense and Ribeira Grande. Benfica yet again lost to Sporting on January 20 with the same goals concessions but lower as Benfica scored none, the result was 2-0. Another draw with ADESBA was made, this time away with a two goal draw on January 26. A week later, Benfica suffered a back to back loss, they lost to Ribeira Grande 2-1 and remains 10th place outside the last two positions which is the relegation zone. Benfica suffered another loss with the score 3-2 to Tchadense, Benfica scored their 10th goal and their totals was 11 with Tira Chapéu, they remain 10th and with a point difference with that club, the club now has a possibility for risking for relegation in late March. Benfica suffered another third straight loss (9th overall), this time to the mighty Académica at round 16 with the score 4-1, Benfica did not immediately risk relegation as Tira Chapéu lost to ADESBA, Benfica was four points more than last placed Eugénio Lima. A minimal relief was made with a two goal draw with Celtic on February 23, the 17th round and for the fifth round being 10th place, still outside the relegation zone with a two point difference over Tira Chapéu, the club also had 12 points. Their minimal relief from relegation was smaller due to Eugěnio Lima's win over Ribeira Grande, at the 18th round, a second consecutive draw was made, this one a goal each with the mighty Boavista. Benfica has been etch a bit into the relegation zone but has a chance to remain in the Premier Division next season, an unexpected loss came to Tira Chapéu at the 19th round with the score 2-3, and their 13 points, equal to that club, but their position risen to 10th, outside the relegation zone due to their 17 goals, two more than Tira Chapéu and their 10 losses, four more than that club. Benfica made another win in eight matches, they defeated Desportivo 1-2 on March 18 at the 20th round and has 16 points, little bit they etched out the relegation zone. On the opposites, third worst was the club conceded 36 goals alongside Travadores. Benfica made a second straight win over their affiliate Travadores at the 21st round but miraculously fully escaped the relegation with 19 points, six above Tira Chapéu. Benfica's last match was a 1-3 loss to Eugênio Lima, that club will be relegated next season. Benfica will have their third straight appearance alongside Tchadense in the division next season.
Associação Desportiva do Bairro Craveiro Lopes is a multisport club that had played in the Santiago Island South Zone League in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago and plays in the stadium with a capacity of 8,000 The club never won a championship title, they have two cup titles. Its sports include football (soccer), basketball, futsal, similar to arena football and volleyball. Its current president Carlos Sena Teixeira and its manager is Daniel Cardoso who came in February 2017. Its nickname is canarinha which is Portuguese for the little canary.
Associação Académica da Praia is a football club that plays in the Premier division of the Santiago Island League (South) in Cape Verde. It is played along with Praia's three other famous teams in Estádio da Varzea, the club also practices at the stadium and over a kilometer east in Achada Grande Frente. Its current president is Kiki and manager is Janito Carvalho who coached Sporting Praia in the previous season.
Benfica finished 10th with 19 points, four wins, seven draws and 22 goals scored. In home matches, Benfica Praia now has 15 matches without a home win.

Benfica faced Sporting Praia, the first to have a double challenge in two different regional competitions for the club. Originally on January 17, they played on February 6. Benfica suffered as they lost to almighty Sporting and was kicked up from further competitions for the season.
