At the previous edition in held 4 years later in Incheon, the total number of medals increased to 42, but the number of gold medals fell to 6. In Indonesia the performance of local athletes was satisfactory, improving the results obtained in 2010 and 2014 with 46 medals achieving the best results at the games.
