The 2017 QBE Insurance Australian FIM Speedway Grand Prix was the 12th and final race meeting of the 2017 Speedway Grand Prix season. It took place on 28 October at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. [1]

The 2017 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 23rd season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 72nd FIM Speedway World Championship. It was seventeenth series under the promotion of Benfield Sports International, an IMG company.

Riders

First reserve Peter Kildemand replaced Greg Hancock, second reserve Martin Smolinski replaced Nicki Pedersen, first track reserve Justin Sedgmen replaced Niels-Kristian Iversen and second track reserve Davey Watt replaced Fredrik Lindgren. The Speedway Grand Prix Commission also nominated Sam Masters as the wild card, and Brady Kurtz and Rohan Tungate as third and fourth track Reserves.

Peter Kildemand Danish speedway rider

Peter Kildemand is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider who is a member of Denmark U-21 national teams. He was a member of the Swindon Robins Elite League Championship winning side of 2012 and was named "Rider of the Year" for the club at the end of the season.

Greg Hancock American speedway rider

Gregory Alan "Greg" Hancock is an American motorcycle speedway rider.

Martin Smolinski is a German international motorcycle speedway and Grasstrack rider who has represented the German speedway team at senior level. He is the current World Long Track champion and European Grasstrack champion.

Results

The Grand Prix was won by Australia's Jason Doyle, who beat Tai Woffinden, Bartosz Zmarzlik and Patryk Dudek in the final. [2] It was second Grand Prix win of the season for Doyle, and the sixth of his career. He also wrapped up the world title in the 10th heat of the night, becoming the first Australian to win the world title on home soil. He also set the record for the most final appearances in one season with 10.

Jason Kevin Doyle is an Australian motorcycle speedway rider. He became World Champion in 2017. He won the 2015 Australian Solo Championship. He has also won the South Australian Championship in 2014, and the Elite League Riders' Championship and the Master of Speedway meeting in Germany in 2015.

Tai Woffinden British speedway rider

Tai Woffinden is a British speedway rider. In 2013 he became World Speedway Champion and currently rides for the WTS Wrocław in the Polish Speedway Ekstraliga and Indianerna Kumla in the Swedish Elitserien. Until the end of 2014 he also rode for the Wolverhampton Wolves in the British Elite League, but announced in late 2014 that he would not be riding in Britain during 2015 in his quest to regain his World Championship.

Bartosz Zmarzlik Polish speedway rider

Bartosz Zmarzlik is a Polish motorcycle speedway rider and the current World Champion.
