The 2017 Nice Toruń FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland was the 11th race of the 2017 Speedway Grand Prix season. It took place on October 7 at the Marian Rose MotoArena in Toruń, Poland. [1]

The 2017 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 23rd season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 72nd FIM Speedway World Championship. It was seventeenth series under the promotion of Benfield Sports International, an IMG company.

Motoarena Toruń im. Mariana Rosego is a multi-use stadium in Toruń, Poland. It is currently used mostly for motorcycle speedway matches and it is used for car racing and concerts and it is the home stadium of KST Unibax Toruń in the Speedway Ekstraliga. The stadium has a capacity of 15,500 people and was opened on 3 May 2009. It is named after Marian Rose, former speedway rider from Toruń.

Toruń Place in Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Poland

Toruń is a city in northern-central Poland, on the Vistula River. Its population was 202,562 as of December 2017. Previously it was the capital of the Toruń Voivodeship (1975–98) and the Pomeranian Voivodeship (1921–45). Since 1999, Toruń has been a seat of the self-government of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and, as such, is one of its two capitals. The cities and neighboring counties form the Bydgoszcz–Toruń twin city metropolitan area. Toruń itself is the sixteenth-largest city in Poland and the second in the voivodeship.

Riders

First reserve Peter Kildemand replaced Greg Hancock, second reserve Martin Smolinski replaced Nicki Pedersen, third reserve Max Fricke replaced Niels-Kristian Iversen and fourth reserve Václav Milík Jr. replaced Fredrik Lindgren. The Speedway Grand Prix Commission also nominated Paweł Przedpełski as the wild card, and Bartosz Smektała and Igor Kopeć-Sobczyński both as Track Reserves.

Peter Kildemand Danish speedway rider

Peter Kildemand is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider who is a member of Denmark U-21 national teams. He was a member of the Swindon Robins Elite League Championship winning side of 2012 and was named "Rider of the Year" for the club at the end of the season.

Greg Hancock American speedway rider

Gregory Alan "Greg" Hancock is an American motorcycle speedway rider.

Martin Smolinski is a German international motorcycle speedway and Grasstrack rider who has represented the German speedway team at senior level. He is the current World Long Track champion and European Grasstrack champion.

Results

The Grand Prix was won by Poland's Patryk Dudek, who beat Tai Woffinden, Bartosz Zmarzlik and Matej Žagar in the final. [2] It was the first Grand Prix win of Dudek's career, which kept alive the title race as championship leader Jason Doyle was eliminated in the semi-finals.

Patryk Dudek Polish speedway rider

Patryk Dudek is a Polish motorcycle speedway rider who is a member of the Polish national speedway team. He got his speedway licence in 2008. His father, Sławomir, is a former rider. Dudek won 2009 and 2010 Team U-19 European Champion and 2009 Individual Under-21 Polish Champion titles. He is the 2017 Speedway Grand Prix silver medallist, having accomplished this during his debut season in the Speedway Grand Prix series, which makes him the most successful SGP rookie ever.

Tai Woffinden British speedway rider

Tai Woffinden is a speedway rider. In 2013 he became World Speedway Champion and currently rides for the WTS Wrocław in the Polish Speedway Ekstraliga and Indianerna Kumla in the Swedish Elitserien. Until the end of 2014 he also rode for the Wolverhampton Wolves in the British Elite League, but announced in late 2014 that he would not be riding in Britain during 2015 in his quest to regain his World Championship.
