The 2018 All Africa Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships is a continental stage tournament of Thomas and Uber Cups, and also to crown the best men's and women's badminton team in Africa. This tournament will be held in Algiers, Algeria between 12 and 15 February 2018. [1]
The All Africa Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships officially crowns the best male and female national badminton teams in Africa and at the same time works as the African qualification event towards the 2018 Thomas & Uber Cup finals. 19 teams consisting of 12 men's team and 7 women's team have entered the tournament. [2]
Venue of this tournament is Salle OMS Hacène Harcha Arena, in Algiers, Algeria. [3]
The host country, Algeria has been crowned the champion in the men's team event. [4] The Algeria team beating Nigeria with the score 3–2, and Nigeria settle for the silver medal. [5] It is the first time for Algeria to win the competition, and also will be the first time for the team to participate at the Thomas Cup final. [6] The men's team bronze goes to Mauritius and Ghana. The team lose in the semifinal round to Algeria and Nigeria, both with the score 3–1 respectively. [7] [8]

The Mauritian women's team clinched the title and won the gold medal after beating the flagship country of African badminton, Nigeria. Under the coach from Malaysia, Krishnan Yogendran, Mauritius defeating Nigeria with the score 3–0. [9] The Egypt and Algeria women's team were placed third in the competition and won the bronze medal. Both teams defeated in the semifinal by Nigeria and Mauritius with the score 3–2 respectively. The Algeria women's national football team represents Algeria in international women's football. The team is currently ranked 76th in the world in the FIFA women's rankings. The team's highest ranking was 64th, in June 2009. The team plays its home games at the Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers and is coached by Radia Fertoul since August 2018. Algeria played its first match on May 14, 1998, against France, and lost 14–0.
Algeria competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7 to 18 September 2016.
The 2016 Africa Continental Team Badminton Championships were held in Beau-Bassin Rose-Hill, Mauritius, between 15–21 February and were organised by Badminton Confederation of Africa. South Africa was the defending champion. This tournament serves as qualification stage for African countries for the 2016 Thomas & Uber Cup.

The XIII 2018 Oceania Badminton Championships was the continental badminton championships in Oceania sanctioned by the Badminton Oceania, and Badminton World Federation. This championship was organized by Badminton New Zealand, and was the 13th edition of the Oceania Badminton Championships. It was held in Hamilton, New Zealand from 6 to 11 February 2018. The team event started on 6 February, and was the qualification stage for the 2018 Thomas & Uber Cup finals in Thailand, while the individual event will start on February 8.
The XXII 2018 Pan Am Badminton Championships was a continental championships tournament of badminton in Pan America. This tournament was held as two events in different countries. From 15 to 18 February, the team event was held in Tacarigua, Trinidad and Tobago. From 26 to 29 April, the individual event was held in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
The 2019 African Badminton Championships was the continental badminton championships to crown the best players and teams across Africa. The tournament was held at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Centre in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, from 22–28 April.
Nigeria competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the nation made its debut in 1952, Nigerian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal because of the African boycott.
The 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 31st edition of the Thomas Cup and the 28th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament were played at Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark. It is the first time that Denmark hosted the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup tournament and the first time this event was held in Europe since England 1982. It was due to be played on 15–23 August 2020, but on 29 April 2020 it was postponed to the 3–11 October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 15 September 2020 it was again postponed and on 21 December 2020 it was announced that it was postponed to 9–17 October 2021.
The 2020 edition of the European Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships was held in Liévin, France, from 11 to 16 February 2020. This tournament also serves as European qualification for the 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup.

This championships was organized by the Badminton Asia with Philippine Badminton Association as host organiser and sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation. This tournament served as the Asian qualifiers for the 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup in Denmark. Competitors could also accumulate points as part of qualification process for 2020 Summer Olympics badminton tournament in Tokyo. Indonesia and Japan were the defending champions on men's and women's category respectively. They both successfully defended their title.

Indonesia, the three-time champions, and Japan were the defending champions of the men's and women's category respectively.
