The 2018 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy is the sixth edition of the invitational tournament hosted by Brunei, taking place from 23 April to 5 May. A total of 7 teams of the under-22 age group from the Southeast Asian region will be competing for the trophy along with a cash prize of B$20,000 (US$15,200) for the winners, B$10,000 (US$7,600) for the runner-up and B$5,000 (US$3,800) for joint third-place. Teams were divided into two groups, with the host nation able to choose which group to be placed in. The draw took place on 21 March with Brunei electing to choose Group A. [3] Indonesia could not join due to the 2018 PSSI Anniversary Cup, while Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam are not participating due to tight football league schedules in their countries.

Timor-Leste emerged as the champion after beating Cambodia by 1–0 in the final, while both Myanmar and Singapore shared the third place. [4] [5] [6]

The 2012 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy was the fourth edition of the invitational tournament hosted by Brunei. The tournament took place in Brunei between 25 February and 5 March 2012. The competition is for players under the age of 22 and is being held only for the fourth time after 2002, 2005 and 2007. The 27th association football tournament at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games took place in Myanmar between 7–21 December. It was played among U-23 national teams, while the women's tournament had no age limit.

The 2013 AFF U-16 Youth Championship is the 9th edition of the AFF U-16 Youth Championship, organised by the ASEAN Football Federation for the men's under-16 national teams of Southeast Asia. It will be hosted by Myanmar. It will be played between 20 August to 2 September 2013. A total of 10 teams will play in the tournament.

The 2014 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy was the fifth edition of the invitational tournament hosted by Brunei. The tournament take place in Brunei from 9–23 August 2014. Eleven teams from the Asean Football Federation participate in the tournament for under the age of 22. The draw took place on 12 July 2014 at the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) House. The teams are divided into two groups. Host country, Brunei, were given a chance to choose which group they wished to be drawn in. Brunei chose to be drawn in group B. Indonesia was to confirm its participation in the tournament but was not included in the initial draw. Indonesia's participation was later confirmed by the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam on 20 July and a second draw was held on 22 July to include Indonesia. Indonesia send its U19 team.

The 2002 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy is the first edition of the invitational tournament hosted by Brunei. The tournament take place in Brunei from 16 to 26 August 2002. Ten teams from the ASEAN Football Federation participate in the tournament for under the age of 22.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2015 WAFF U-23 Championship</span> International football competition

The 2015 WAFF U-23 Championship took place in Doha, Qatar for the first time. Ten nations took part. The competition was held in Doha from 30 September 30 to 14 October with the draw for the tournament on 6 September 2015. Iran won the title after they defeated Syria in the final. This was Iran's last WAFF competition before joining the Central Asian Football Association.

The 2018 AFF Championship qualification tournament was the qualification process for the 2018 AFF Championship, the twelfth edition of the AFF Championship. Brunei and Timor-Leste contested the tenth and final remaining berth for the AFF Championship final tournament in two home-and-away matches. On 7 August 2018, organising committees confirmed the venue where Timor-Leste will play Brunei has been changed due to floodlighting issues. The opening match was held at Kuala Lumpur Stadium, Malaysia, not as per originally planned at National Stadium, Dili.
